  • You can call it whatever you want. Email has been around since the 70s. Bluesky and ActivityPub sure have not.

  • Your rephrasing changed it qualitatively. Of course it takes no position on whether Lemmy is part of the Fediverse considering it now does not have the word Fediverse in it.

  • The mention of email is

Even so, much like how users of one email service such as Gmail can still send emails to users of another service such as Outlook, users may still view content and interact with users on any other instance in the fediverse

which implicitly says email is not considered part of the fediverse by comparing the two.

  • The others listed are bluesky, nostra and farcast. I suppose we could count protocols that nobody uses…

  • Fediverse is ActivityPub. Email is not, though the theory is somewhat similar.

  • The Tesla worker reportedly told the black business owner — beloved by other Silicon Valley heavyweights — that company wanted the pies delivered the following week for an event to commemorate Black History Month.

Oh, so Elton heard about it and vetoed it.

  • Once he has to actually pay them vs appealing, I’ll believe it.

  • Right. He claims everything else about him is political, like being prosecuted for crimes or civil offenses, but not the shoe selling though..

  • Why would you assume I got this impression from talking to people online?

  • I do too well, thanks, but that’s irrelevant. I don’t get what your point is. None of that is anything new. When I worked at a restaurant in the 90s servers made $2.17 an hour plus tips, and it was okay to do 15%. 10% was for below average service, but 20 was if you loved them. 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, always 15%. 25% was considered a really generous tip for great service. Now people expect to 25% though nothing has changed about the business or what waitstaff do.

  • I don’t really get why the expected percentage went up. 15% was the standard for a LONG time. 20% meant you thought they were great. Now 15 is considered shitty, like an insult, and we’re supposed to do 18 or 25 or 30. Meanwhile prices also went up. Why am I supposed to tip 25% now? Service hasn’t changed.

  • Ha, urgh... the string checking thing is amusing. That's not even counting that ME was the last DOS based one, and there was NT 3.1, 3.5, and 4, then 2000 was NT 5.0... and XP and everything after that. Then internally XP was NT 5.1, 5.2, and Vista was NT 6. Windows 7? NT 6.1. Windows 8: NT 6.2. Then Windows 10? NT 10,0. Now the latest Windows 11 is uh, 23H2.

  • The figure is off by two decimal places. 136 billion is about .5% of 25.6 trillion.

  • That’s the problem. I know of a couple video games where the publisher closed their forums and opened a discord channel. I have no idea why people view them as equivalent things.

  • You could start a Lemmy community, subreddit, even a mastodon or Twitter account with the same investment and effort.
