This seems like it could have been solved at the instance level by banning some emojis... So I guess I'm confused?
I still don't agree with censoring political views that we disagree with. It's a slippery slope, especially when these are REAL people that DO exist. They deserve to have their voice heard, even if it's so they can be shit on.
Edit: is there no way to block individual users without defederation? It sounds like taking the nuclear option against a few bad actors. We should want to have our worldview challenged since that's a core component of democracy.
On the other hand, what if the problem is simply one that's no longer important for most people? Isn't technological advancement supposed to introduce abstraction that people can develop on?
I mean, you were never blocked from replacing ICs. Most people just didn't have the capability to solder. Today, IC replacement is blocked by hardware DRM.
Except... That's not what democracy relies on. Democracy relies on discourse of views, even if they are unpopular. Tolerating only the prevailing opinion isn't a democracy, it's an autocracy.
I mean... It's not like there's not a standing invitation for Germany's current government. Is building diplomatic ties not permissible if the party isn't currently in power?
Better fucking tell the Republicans to get out of Canadian politics, then.
Fruit is less expensive, though.
