I have a Chromecast Ultra connected by ethernet to my network. There's an android app with a cast functionality which we both use with our respective accounts. I also hear good things about the Android TV and roku clients (but have neither myself)

Agreed, as long as you handle the HTTPS or VPN setup, and set up any automatic media downloading ( jellyseer, sonarr and radarr and jackett) the end product is certifiably wife approved and works nicely out of the box

and an industry grade internet connection if you plan on sharing your library with a few friends. Otherwise, fully agreed

edit: if you have mostly full HD stuff it might be pretty feasible with regular internet

But I'm sorry to say I still don't care enough to want to constantly read about this stuff in spaces that are supposed to be about technology (in the case of technical mailing lists and Github issues, literally exclusively) instead of people.

I don't know what your exact issue with Hackernews is, I rarely visit it.

To clarify, I am alleging that a lot of this "censorship" is just mods deleting posts which have been sufficiently downvoted by people like me who are not particularly interested in the alleged sexual crimes or social justice plights of people, especially when we actually want to read about tech. Give me a way to filter this out a priori or use dedicated channels to discuss it and I won't have to downvote it.

To use your analogy, write your warnings to stderr which I can easily redirect to /dev/null while still consuming the program output, and we're golden.

Of course, it's forbidden, that's definitely a more parsimonious explanation than people simply not being interested in reading rape allegations on a tech news aggregator, a technical mailing list or a Github issues page, of all places.

No need to overcomplicate things, just write a small shell script or even just an alias. I use this daily:

alias get-rekt="sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y && sudo apt autoremove -y && flatpak update -y && flatpak remove --unused --delete-data -y"

adjust accordingly for Fedora and/or snaps. Obviously doesn't work for appimages or manually compiled stuff which should be a last resort if there's no other sensible way to install stuff.

Yeah, RIP German piracy community. Always a huge PITA to find German movies online. I wasn't aware one company is driving most of those lawsuits though, what a wild story. Can't fault them for finding a great business model though

Depends on your needs. If you expect to grow fast and unpredictably, or have extreme burst workloads (at my company it fluctuates between requiring ~10 cpus to ~50,000, and between 0 GPUs and dozens) or if you need several complex types of services and no people at hand who can manage them, it can be way cheaper. If you just need a few servers, a tape backup and a database, actual hardware has always been cheaper.

The range is just a number. Name another number. From my experience, chances are if they want you for the job they'll make a counteroffer, not outright reject jou if your offer is too high.

Do you really wanna make a species close to self annihilation multiplanetary though? It's probably pretty easy to nudge a few asteroids the wrong way given the right drive technology...so not sure space colonies would change the likelihood of doom.
