  • ...abolishing the DOE will reduce the tax burden on citizens living in blue states...

There's no such thing as a "federal education funding tax" applied to each state to collectively fund education across the whole country.

The IRS will collect the same federal tax that it always has, but Republicans will funnel the former federal public education money to their pet projects: "crisis pregnancy centers," the military, more tax cuts for billionaires, vouchers for discriminatory private schools, etc.

Therefore the Blue states will get even less federal funding in return for the federal taxes that their economies generate, but by no means will their federal tax burden go down.

  • Looking forward to headlines like "Trump Administration Emails Hacked by (insert foreign adversary)"

I hope they don't steal all of our national secrets about drinking raw milk, and how to seduce 8 year olds by grabbing them by the pussy.

  • Consider non-torrent P2P platforms like eMule/eD2K. If you know what the name of you're looking for, there's a fair amount of obscure material to be downloaded that can be difficult to find otherwise.

    eD2K is slow, but effective.

  • Also trying out Bluesky, and it is a lot like Twitter used to be, but it has the potential to turn out like Xitter is today, because at the end of the day Bluesky is a for-profit startup corporation.

Sooner or later, Bluesky is going to want to make money for its shareholders, and that means any of: 1) Selling advertisements, 2) Selling your personal data, and/or 3) In a classic tech startup play, selling itself to the highest bidder like: Android, YouTube, and yes, Twitter.

And with commercialization, or in Xitter's case a fool with too much money, comes enshittification.

Lemmy is nothing like a for-profit startup company, as far as I know, but that doesn't make it enshittification-proof, but at least it won't take the commercialization route.

  • What's your enshittification timeline? (Order is approximate)

Mine: Broadcast TV > Arcade Games > Usenet > Yahoo > Saturday Morning Cartoons > Email (spam) > Yahoo Groups > AAA games > Cable TV > Game Consoles > Talk Radio > Graphics Cards > Google Search > Twitch > YouTube > Reddit > Pinball > America

  • Even if you don't want deign to give Trump himself credit, he's got very smart lieutenants working for him, like that Susie Wiles who co-managed his by-all-accounts "disciplined" campaign and was named Chief Of Staff a couple of days ago.

  • It's probably most famously the name of the lead heroine in the Sailor Moon anime and manga, hence it's a girl's name, and on the hurricane/typhoon name list.

I have no idea how many Japanese girls are actually named Usagi.

Maybe an anime fan had input to the name list, and we can expect Typhoon Madoka some time.
