  • Yeah it rubs me the wrong way when he treats his workforce as his personal tech peasants by getting them to do ridiculously luxurious upgrades at his house.

Sure they get paid but he's often getting stuff free or discounted from sponsors installed by his employees essentially for free as he gets to claim their wages as a tax discount all so his primary school aged kids can have their third $5000 gaming rig so they have a computer on every floor of the house.

Personally I would tell him to get fucked, it's insulting to his employees.

  • Its great that it's secure and open source etc but do the people who come up with all of these new social networks understand the onboarding cost?

I love Linux and open source, but there's no point using something like this unless my friends and family are too. They won't log in just to see one person's posts. They barely understand Facebook as it is, they're not going to learn a new app.

If it's something like Twitter where the point is to follow and share with strangers then maybe, but you're asking way too much of your users if you expect them to migrate their entire family and friend groups onto the twentieth competing social platform when there's already several apps that they've signed up for / gotten used to / invested time in / posted to.

Not even Google could compete with FB.

  • I watched an amazing documentary on YouTube, made at the time of Apollo 11 that showed how the computers worked. It absolutely blew me away.

The way they did so much with so little was incredible. There was no such thing as flashing firmware to a chip; they hard coded the bits and bytes by hand. BY HAND.

That's like hiring people to count the grains of sand on a beach. Amazing!

  • Can I respectfully ask, what's the definition of queer as opposed to lesbian, gay, bi, trans or intersex? As in, why is it included in the acronym? Does it have a specific meaning that isn't covered by the other terms?
