So funnily enough, the very first movement they submitted to the contest in 1963 was a quartz, and it placed tenth overall. They went with mechanical movements for subsequent competitions, and didn’t actually start placing high again until 1966 when they placed ninth overall. In ‘67 they did even better, placing fourth, but then the contest was canceled for good the next year.

Hell yeah Wendy Carlos! Those old videos of her explaining how synthesizers work were legitimately my intro into production. You can just tell she’s so passionate about these nifty machines, it’s absolutely lovely.

I only recently realized how amazing the controller customization is on the deck. Being able to edit your entire control scheme completely on the fly without even closing the game is a real gamechanger.

I remember fighting with third party tools just to get simple shit like macros or mouse control mapped to a controller. Now I can set up complex doodads like button chords and mode shifts, it feels like the future.

Fucken Rae Dunn, dog. I knew a girl who had two kids straight out of high school and blew her entire income on trendy housewares for the apartment she could barely afford. When I broke contact she was buying halloween variants of serving dishes she had already never used. Last I heard her parents have those kids now.

Lousiana got some nice ones. Sometimes the trees are dense enough you get a full canopy of spanish moss. Some of the only real forests I’ve been able to see in person, beautiful area.
