  • That is useful, thanks. Though still not sure about searching for people, but meeeeeeeeeeh I can always use outside search and paste the contact info in myself.

Now if I can just get it so when I click on my message replies it actually jumps to my comment on multi-page threads.

  • I just wish it was easier to use the microblogging side to interact with Mastodon. It's great that it interacts at all, but I still can't figure out how to get a feed of people I follow, or even search for people on Mastodon to follow in the first place.

  • Then split that into a few hundred 1.36mb file segments and send them along with a handful of par files. Not par2, just par.

  • Hotline Miami. God damn, so good.

  • Browsing the internet on mobile devices has gotten so bad in the last few years. It's all but guaranteed that at least quarter of the space on any website is going to be taken up by floating ads that don't move as you scroll. Some of them it's over half. I cannot understand how normal folks navigate the web without adblockers.

  • Also some of the best goddamn memes I've seen in a while. Seriously, it's rare I'll spot a meme on Reddit that I feel like reposting, but over the last three days I've found a good dozen on Lemmy where I was like "I have to share this with so-and-so".

  • What is with the enshitification of everything this last year? Is it because we didn’t actively overthrow the government through the Trump bs?

Close, it's because they did it, failed, and (so far) suffered no consequences for doing so. Pretty well signaled that it's open season for pulling whatever dystopian totalitarian crap you want and the worst that can happen is it won't work.

  • Right now we're in the "every other" release of Windows, the one that's shit. 7 was good, so 8 was shit. 10 was good, so now 11 is shit. I'm not surprised you're having problems.

Might try using 10 and see if that's any better. At a minimum it's not going to be nearly as picky about what it will or won't install on.

  • Can't you use the same account on kbin and mastodon as well?

  • I dunno if you consider news aggregators separate from social media, but if you do then FARK is still alive and kicking. Pretty good coverage of mainstream news from a huge variety of sources, plus some occasional coverage of the less mainstream stuff (usually mocking it if it's really out there). Doesn't have anywhere near the volume of content that social media has, but the quality is typically a lot better.

  • Now that I've found a workable userstyle that gives kbin the same information density as old reddit (Narwhal) it may be time to switch over here. For better or worse kbin's funding situation seems a bit more ironclad. Also the fact that I can check Lemmy communities and do Mastodon at the same time is pretty attractive.
