  • This is such a flawed argument though, many of us remember when these services started coming out and the general Zeitgeist was "wow! What an amazing and interesting way to connect to each other!" There wasn't too much public concern that our works would be sold to companies because these were just "platforms" places where you could shout out to the world about your passion.

The idea that this was a mistake the end user should have known better about is wrong because there was no preconception that your creative ideas were at any sort of risk, AI didn't exist and it was commonly accepted that "of course you owned this, you made it".

If you apply such a modern lens to the very early stages of the internet, of course it's going to look stupid. But remember that most people at the time thought they'd be safe and wouldn't willingly subject themselves to this kind of treatment

  • I mean I have a 3d printer I could prototype but generally 3d prints aren't an end all solution as their porous surfaces are a breeding ground for bacteria. And after some testing I could think of maybe two ways to accomplish this, one with a speaker behind a half circle that fits in like a plug. The downside of this design is you would constantly have to rotate the open portion of the semicircle to be directed towards your ear canal. The other idea is an assembly that fits in as a plug and uses a probe that rests against an area behind your ear to do bone conduction rather than straight audio. This is generally meant to be a stealth or at the least pretty discreet listening system

  • I wish they didn't fuck the public transit directions in general, if I want to use them I used to be able to say "i just want to use the train"

Now it's impossible because it automatically decides I wanted to use a bus to connect to each train stop, not allowing for the correct calculations to make a route based on train and foot traffic only. It's not like I can just ignore the bus options because suddenly that means an hour walk. I'm back to the dark ages of printing out fucking directions

  • It seriously does feel like it sometimes, and in the end you just kind of feel alienated because you seem to be the only one who just doesn't feel like this should be your life

  • This is the definition of false equivalence, that's comparing two situations without considering their relative differences, leading to leaps in logic or inaccurate statements.

Sikh head wraps are an extra article of clothing which is worn for religious purposes and is widely recognized as such. This patch, while worn for religious purposes also contains clear political messages, which is inappropriate for a police officer. They are peace officers who if someone disagrees with, and they happen to be highly opinionated could ruin that person's life unfairly or even cause them harm.

But disregarding that, and going back to my original statement, is not an extra accessory but a modification to the uniform, which is against the department's policies. That is why this was acceptable to be made to be removed.
