  • It's just gaslighting to try and convince people that the economy is still doing well despite their personal experience to the contrary.

  • I'd argue that there's also an aspect of collectivism vs individualism at play here. In China, people see advancing their country as a collective effort. People want to become part of something bigger than themselves. There's an aspect of inspiration when you see your society achieve great things, and you naturally want to be part of that. So, kids grow up wanting to become an astronaut or an engineer. On the other hand, when you live in a hyper-individualistic culture where personal achievement is seen as peak success, there's really nothing greater to strive for than being rich and famous. Thus, kids want to become influencers, because that's seen as a path towards success that society encourages.

  • I think it's a good idea. Majority of people hold mainstream political views largely due to the fact that they’ve grown up with these beliefs and haven’t had cause to critically evaluate them. As people in the mainstream become disillusioned with mainstream politics, they may be more open to considering alternative ideologies like communism. So, it's really important for communists to have discussion with such people and to educate them.

  • Short answer is no. The longer answer is that focusing on any niche political group is fundamentally misguided. It's important to remember that the majority of people hold mainstream political views, often without deeply considered convictions. This is largely due to the fact that they've grown up with these beliefs and haven't had cause to critically evaluate them. However, as economic conditions worsen and people become increasingly disillusioned with mainstream politics, they may be more open to considering alternative ideologies like communism.

Therefore, rather than focusing on a group that already holds a hostile ideology, it's more effective for communists to target those who are open to new ideas and perspectives. While it may seem beneficial to try and deprogram nazis, it's ultimately misguided and unlikely to produce desired results. Instead, the focus should be on those who are disillusioned with mainstream politics and open to considering new ideas - a group that's far more likely to be receptive to communist ideology.

  • The article mostly talks about using AI for the maintenance of the infrastructure, and detecting potential problems before they happen.

  • The government in USSR very much represented the working class. Maybe actually spend a bit of time learning about USSR instead of regurgitating propaganda points you've memorized?

edit: I love how mad libs of lemmy get when faced with basic historical facts

  • And a relevant passage from This Soviet World by Anna Louise Strong

  • Are you disputing the factual basis of the article or just attacking the source?

  • For sure, politics in US are becoming increasingly polarized and each party frames all the problems as being the fault of the policies the other party is pursuing.

  • I imagine a lot of US mythology feeds into this actually. People are brought up thinking that US is built on rugged individualism, and to mistrust any sort of a central government. So, it's only natural that they will increasingly blame the federal government for their problems as they start falling on increasingly hard times.

  • yeah same, like wtf is it even trying to say
