  • I think it's kind of natural to want to believe that there is some forces of good within the system. Accepting that both parties are there to represent the oligarchs is a hard pill to swallow.

  • Not sure where they fit in there. Also, it's a bit out of date as Disney now owns most of the News Corp properties aside from Fox.

  • It's true, there has been even more consolidation since.

  • Ukrainian government in exile will defeat Putin in western hearts and minds.

  • It's the same dynamic when it comes to the adversaries of the empire. People who swear up and down that the government is corrupt and that the media lies about everything also believe everything the government and the media tell them about countries like China.

  • Now it's kind of too late though. They lost all the gear they put together for the offensive as well as the actual soldiers. There is no opportunity for the west to replace people or equipment to the same levels as before. Meanwhile, Russia continues to push all over the front now, and starting to make visible gains on daily basis. This is forcing Ukraine to pour any reserves they still have into plugging the growing gaps in the line. There's no way to dig out of this now.

  • I think there are different interests at play there. The military industrial complex obviously won't be sad about losing all the hardware, but the political class is very much not happy about the result. Especially given that they're now entering the election season and gonna have to run on a complete debacle.

  • Exactly, Ukraine has finally broken the taboo on openly supporting fascists in the west.

  • The west installing incompetent fascists into power has basically been a trend for a while now. As you point out, they need somebody who is easy to control. This means they can't be too clever, and they have to be afraid of their own people which makes them dependent on their masters.

  • Indeed, the whole Ukrainian offensive disaster clearly shows that the west had no idea regarding Russian capabilities and preparations.

  • Not quite, as they never managed to get a government that would fully supplicate itself to the west. They effectively got a similar situation to Ukraine before maidan where Serbia stayed neutral between Russia and the west.

  • Exactly, they're two sides of the same coin.

  • The West has a problem in Serbia because it is difficult to find an anti-Russian nationalist movement there.

Anti-Soviet people are easy, there are a lot of them, but for both the “red” Serbs and the Serbian nationalists, see Russians as a force backing Serbian independence. People remember NATO role in the collapse of Yugoslavia as well.

Without radical nationalists a color revolution doesn’t work out. There’s no one to form a militant group to start a serious mess with the police. The same football fan movement in Serbia is more likely to take to the streets with the idea of once again beating the Croats, but certainly not in order to overthrow their government, albeit not the most respected one, in the interests of the West. Especially when everyone knows that the West wants Serbia to participate in the war against Russia.

So, under these conditions, one cannot expect a classic Maidan scenario, when “peaceful” protestors are supported by close-knit groups of radical nationalists.

  • it is approaching that stage of the empire

  • I love how utterly myopic libs are here. They're actively destroying trust in the political system in order to win the election. The whole system is fundamentally a social contract that requires majority of the population to believe that elections are fair in order to accept the results. Once you get to the point where people no longer believe that elections are fair then there's no reason to accept the party you don't support holding power. These people are actively helping create the conditions that will ultimately result in the unravelling of the entire political system.
