This is a fact that a full DeepSeek model can now be run using 200 watts. What your IEA link is saying is that there will be surge in energy use because this tech will be deployed at scale, this has fuck all to do with efficiency.

Training AI is a one time task. Every AI vendor is not training models from scratch, what they're doing is using approaches like LoRA to tune existing models.

Except there are no truly open AI models because they all use stolen training data. Even the “open source” models like Mistral and DeepSeek say nothing about where they get their data from. The only way for there to be an open source AI model is if there was a reputable pool of training data where all the original authors consented to their work being used to train AI.

Meanwhile, corps clearly don't care about IP here and will keep developing this tech regardless of how ethical it is. Seems to me that it's better if there are open model available and developed by the community than there only being closed models developed by corps who decide how they work and who can use them.

Thanks, and I completely agree with you. I think we'll likely start seeing BRICS members learn from China first, and the west will keep trying to fix its model in the foreseeable future. The key difference from the coming ideological struggle from one with USSR is that the west isn't starting from and advantageous position this time around.

I'm personally skeptical that a complete lack of states can be achieved in practice. Humanity is simply too diverse, and it's highly unlikely that everyone will agree on a single common system. Even if it was possible, lack of state would not mean lack of need for management and organization, so you would still have hierarchical structures in place to manage things.

Russia didn't invade Crimea. They already had an agreement with the legitimate government of Ukraine to station a base there. Then when the west overthrew the government in a violent coup, Russia moved in to annex Crimea. Gotta put a bit more work into your propaganda there to make it more credible sounding champ.
