  • I'm just going to point out the contradiction in Israeli society where sexual violence by Hamas drives the population to apoplectic spasms while the rape of a citizen by a public figure gets the shrug of the shoulders and "she's just doing it for attention/money".

  • The American regulatory regime routinely relies on individual court action to resolve many issues. The ADA for example, has no enforcement authority, just a prescribed amount that someone who's disabled can sue. And they call us litigious.

  • I learned this week that Microsoft keeps a copy of your keys when you encrypt your hdd with their software. So you don't need a black hat, all you need is a subpoena.

  • The war on drugs has made research into cannabis difficult and compared to alcohol and tobacco, we are practically blind. Legalization has changed this and we should pay attention.

The only thing to match the propaganda of the drug war is the CBD cure-all craze. I think that it's wise to do some basic research so that one day we can have an informed opinion rather than a knee jerk reaction.

  • Why would you not want to encrypt your files?

Bitlocker is only as secure as Microsoft is. If someone hacks your account, they've got your keys. And Micosoft stores that key in plain text.

  • The control panel dialogue allows you to do this as well. Control Panel > system security > Bitlocker encryption. But it also has the superior option which is to turn it off.

I didn't loose any data BTW. I had my M$ account info, and a backup besides.

  • The cycle goes: Star Wars is for kids and when they grow up they're going to hate the Star Wars their kids are watching. I'm old enough to have seen the entire cycle with the prequels.

And btw, The best trilogy is Rogue One, Empire Strikes Back, and The Last Jedi.

  • That movie is funny, but not in any way accurate or truthful. Half of the story is Boyd's bitterness at having his own designs laughed at and the other is him not understanding how procurement and testing even work.

For example, in the move the protagonist discovers that vehicles meant for destructive testing had their fuel replaced with water and dummy ammunition. Boyd frames this as cheating to minimize possible secondary explosions. The reality is that fuel and ammo are removed from these vehicles so that they can be studied afterwards more easily. Penetrations into the magazine or fuel tank are easier to see when those components are not confetti.
