  • See, this just isn't true. There are a number of states that have the right to abortion enshrined in their constitution. Others are voting to have it added to their constitutions. Just because it was removed nationally, doesn't mean everyone lost that right.

Granted, it is absolutely a tragedy what is going on in the more backwards states. But things like this make it sound worse than the situation is nationwide. This is the issue the OP has. If you only see the negatives that are reported in the news, it sounds like the US is an absolute hellhole, which is not most people's lived experience.

  • That sounds like either a terrible work environment or depression.

I absolutely hated my first summer job in high school. Because of that, I found myself avoiding doing things I loved, because they made the time go faster which meant it was time to return to work that much faster. Once I quit, and for all other jobs I've had since then, I've never felt like that again. If you generally enjoy your job, I'd probably look into if you might be experiencing depression instead.

Hobbies and regular vacations are things that should give you energy for those more stressful times at work. Especially, regular physical hobbies are important for stress relief and staying energized. I had to take a 3 month break from my hobby sport earlier this year due to an injury and I absolutely felt terrible during that time.

  • I'm a bit obsessed with watching cooking shows on YouTube. Here are a few of my favorites in no particular order.

    • Anti-chef: Guy is on a journey to learn how to cook. Blew up when he started working through Julia Child's cookbooks. He also has a series where he is trying to make something from every country in the world.
    • Barry Lewis - British guy who tries a lot of Tiktok foods, hacks, and has compares ingredients based on price
    • Beryl Shereshewsky - cooks foods from around the world based on a shared theme/ingredient
    • Pasta Grammer - Italian woman teaches her American husband about traditional Italian foods
    • Claire Saffitz - incredible baker
    • Chef John - he's an excellent teacher
    • Sorted food - their older videos had a lot of battles and educational content. My favorite series they do is recipe relays.
    • J Kenji Lopez alt - I actually can't watch his channel because the POV makes me motion sick. However, he's a fantastic chef and you should watch him if the camera angle doesn't bother you.
    • Glen and friends cooking - he tries a lot of recipes from old community cookbooks
    • Tasting History with Max Miller - tries ancient recipes and teaches you the history of that food
    • Pro home cooks - I don't watch this channel as much anymore, but it used to be 2 brothers who taught viewers basic cooking techniques to throw together basic meals. Now it's run by just one of the brothers and he sometimes makes more complicated items, but still has a lot of simple recipes.
    • NYT Cooking - specifically the Mystery Menu series with Sohla and Ham. Won't necessarily teach you to cook but is fun to watch them come up with ridiculous seeming menus.
  • If my whole team was based out of the same office and we coordinated the days we were there to have in person meetings. I don't see any reason to be 100% in the office, though 1-2 days a week in this scenario would be nice.

My team is spread out all over the place, so it makes no sense to go to the office just to be on WebEx the whole time anyways.

  • I've heard good things about the advice given in the Ask a Manager blog.

Maybe it's worth looking into to see if your cover letter/resume/interview skills are up to snuff, depending on where you seem to stall out in the process.

  • Cuteness has nothing to do with sexual attraction. Loads of things are cute. Kittens, puppies, red pandas, baby ducks are some examples of cute things. Basically anything that makes you go "aww" is cute.

If he was asking if you thought he was hot as a kid, that would be weird and you would be right to feel like that is inappropriate.

  • I remember when people would always complain that Facebook was just pictures of people's kids. I miss that. I want to see pictures of your kids, pets, travels, meals, whatever else you want to share of your life. I don't want to see whatever propaganda or rage bait you've fallen for most recently.
