  • In English, the word “parent” can be used in two important but very different ways.

    1. Biologically, conveying causal information about gametes and probability distributions of genetic data.
    2. Normatively, implying duties, rights, and responsibilities associated with certain close human relationships.

While it’s true that people often love their biological children and vice versa, the relevant fact is the emotional bond (condition 2), not the biological one, which has no normative import.

  • You’re not wrong. I just think phones do too much as it is. I have like 5 computers, and I don’t need my phone to do everything. But what it does it has to do perfectly.

  • I have both, and the iOS integration of basic features is insane. Consider examples like… passwords; I’ll get a verification code in a text message or an email and it’ll auto populate and then delete the message. There are so many features like that, which make your phone a seamless part of the “ecosystem.” Android is the opposite. You need an app to do anything and it will require setup and it won’t work every time.

Convenience is what matters. Bootloaders and codecs are not as important as whether my earbuds connect instantly and 100% of the time. A phone should make my life simpler. Etc.

  • It’s like that gif of an orangutan fighting the bulldozer. I’m not sure why you think it’s an “emotional” response to defend yourself from the people literally trying to end all sentient life on this planet. It’s folks like you who’re pusillanimously marching our collective species into the afterlife.

Also, btw, all normative decisions, “logical” and otherwise, are fundamentally “emotional.” You’ve no other mechanism for evaluative judgement, you dumb moralizing motherfucker.

  • Discord is fashionable. That’s it. The whole app is fantastically impractical if you want to use file or screen sharing. It’s just a bunch of gamers circle-jerking each other, which is a perfect way to keep them from infesting the rest of the internet.

  • The people downvoting you are the ones who eat up the enshittificaion. Discord is unusable for anyone who wants file or screen sharing. Skype, by contrast, has screen sharing that’s smoother and higher quality, and a file sharing limit of 300mb, all free for the last decade.

But yeah most users are barely computer literate so Discord keeps humming along.
