  • They are also not really left in any sense of the term. Like all tankies they are primarily authoritarian, and the leftist concepts they sling about are solely a means to an end for them, not actual beliefs.

  • Tankie trolls. The equivalent of The_Donald in behaviour and toxicity, with an MO of deliberate brigading and trolling, especially on smaller instances.

They are a net negative to the entire concept of lemmy.

  • I mean, just voting for Trump doesn’t objectively make you a bad person…

    It definitely does.

but one could argue that aside from Trump’s character he wasn’t the worst president the US has had.

That is completely irrelevant to the subject about whether voting for Trump objectively makes you a bad person though.

  • You haven't read the linked article, because the author does adress this. They point out that Peterson specifically does hide obvious and banal ideas in his sentences, so that when people finally find some blatant truths in his word salad, it makes it seem like the ideas are much more profound than the platitudes they actually are.

Here is a quote from the article:

The inflating of the obvious into the awe-inspiring is part of why Peterson can operate so successfully in the “self-help” genre. He can give people the most elementary fatherly life-advice (clean your room, stand up straight) while making it sound like Wisdom.

And remember the author actually shows this with numerous in-depth examples from Peterson's writings. A better editor would do nothing, because Peterson writes like that with intent, the intent being to disguise what a cultish hack he is.

  • It is my hope that every time he freezes he has flashbacks to every shitty thing he has done in his life, and that is the reason he has such a look of fear on his face when he does it.

But who am I kidding, he is such a psychopath that he wouldn't be moved one bit by the shittiness of his own deeds, the look of fear is only caused by confusion and possibly (hopefully) fear of his imminent demise.

  • It is problematic though. Having access to information is not the same as using it. We have kinda "outsourced" most of what was considered common knowledge back then. We think we don't have to remember a lot of "common knowledge" because we can just look it up. But how often do we actually look up that fact instead of just assuming something, even though that information can be accessed immediately?

If you think about it, it is most likely less often than you would have assumed, because it becomes a bother contintually having to look up facts in the middle of something. By having memorised a lot of common knowledge you can immediately incorporate that knowledge into your decisions, as they did back then, instead of having to pause your decisionmaking in order to look something up.

  • I would guess such a post is a pretty useful tool for Putin. Since everybody is corrupt in Russia, and that is an accepted fact, you always have some leverage over everybody with the looming threat of being charged for corruption if you happen to displease the czar.

  • You have no way of knowing that. Removing the gun from the equation would certainly have removed the gun death from it though.

It is actually quite sad and a little bit scary how eager you are to concoct fictitious scenarios in order to remove the gun issue from this story.

  • Idk the solution personally. Seems impossible to balance.

'No Way to Prevent This', Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens'

Solutions already exists in all other countries in the world. It is an incredibly myopic attitude to think you have to somehow invent a completely new concept in order to have gun regulations in your country.

  • Bitter is the flavor of hops.

It very much depends on how you apply the hops. New England style IPAs aren't bitter at all (very low IBU comparable to some pilsners in fact), even though it is probably the type of beer which has the most hops added. The hops are added in the form of aroma hops, which usually provides a citrus flavour instead of the bitterness of bittering hops.

  • You are talking purely out of ignorance. The majority of the population on Earth are getting on just fine using celsius with none of the problems you claim to exist.

Also "really cold" and "really hot" are purely subjective terms which varies a lot from person to person and from location to location.
