  • Again, they calculated the price at the checkout, so they could also have done it for the price tag. It is not a valid excuse in the slightest. Its only purpose is to obfuscate the actual price of an item and confuse the customer about the actual price of an item.

  • That is exactly why they need to spend 10 billion a year. If they didn't constantly shittify their product, google would have had no realistic candidates as competitors, and thus no need to spend money in order to get people to use their product.

But all the search engine alternatives are looking better and better each year, simply from google making their own product shittier.

  • Your information is outdated. It is even clearly mentioned in the one-sentence summary in the OP:

Oxford study proves heat pumps triumph over fossil fuels in the cold::Published Monday in the scientific journal Joule, the research found that heat pumps are two to three times more efficient than their oil and gas counterparts, specifically in temperatures ranging from 10 C to -20 C.

  • The Confession by Giuseppe Molteni from 1838.

The sweet yet pert woman kneeling in the confessional was thought by some contemporary critics to represent a young mother who had yielded to the advances of an admirer. Meticulously captured in all the details of furnishing and dress, the contemporary scene was instead seen by the Catholic critic Pietro Estense Selvatico as designed to illustrate the moral beauty of everyday life.

So a bit of, most likely intentional, controversy, but of course nothing nowhere close to the meme.

  • It doesn't even have every book published in the UK, because there are a lot of books, especially at the beginning of the printing press period, which does not exist in any known copies anymore.

Not to mention that the policy of collecting ephemera is a relatively new one, so most older ephemera doesn't exist in its collections either.

  • I don't see why brick and mortar houses should be extra susceptible to those problems if build well. But of course Europe didn't use to see the same extremes of heat and humidity as the US does, perhaps it will become a problem in the future.

  • Deadwood. It is still a classic top 5 HBO show, but unfortunately with so much wasted potential and unexplored storylines. I do rewatch it from time to time, but the knowledge of what could have been is kinda detracting from my full enjoyment of it.

Boardwalk Empire. It got more seasons than Deadwood at least, and also had a final episode which kinda wrapped things up, but it was so rushed and contrary to the general pace of the show that it is very jarring to watch.

  • Community search function sucks, so browsing all is really the only viable solution to find new communities.

Also often you can find communities you didn't even think to search for in all, which is probably the most important function on lemmy as long as it lacks so many of the niche communities which thrived on reddit.
