  • Nah, they're mostly just an ethnic group of fellow Abrahamic Israelites who worship on a different mountain. The author often injects their own biases in scripture, and when they don't, at the very least it's a reflection of cultural norms for the author and/or audience.

Here's a picture of a Jew and a Samaritan side by side. The differences are immediately apparent.

  • Exactly. I'm not sure what metaphor fits best. If there isn't one, it's an odd combination of "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" and "chicken and the egg".

They can't claim there's no demand for it if it isn't on the shelves in the first place.

Times change, the customer is always right in matters of taste, etc.

  • Yeah, we need another circle here for people who are socially conservative. There are pro-life voters who wouldn't identify with any of these positions, leading me to label them anything but conservative.

It's almost as if people aren't as one-dimensional as some voting systems.

  • ...here on Lemmy...

Lemmy skews liberal. Not that there's anything wrong with that™.

As for who is leading the polls, the grass is always greener on the other side of the House of Commons.

While I honour the secret ballet and assure you that my vote will never be known, I love arguing that one should take advantage of the fact that Canada does not have a two-party system. Let the other guys have a turn at screwing up Canada, for a change.

  • The only source is the absolutely bonkers price -- that's why it's an assumption.

In all seriousness, if I were to release open source hardware and software, I'd charge a price like that to ensure that my time would be reasonably compensated for what's clearly going to involve small production batches of hand-built-in-the-first-world items.

  • Hockey Canada's draconian social media policy prevents critical discussion from becoming fruitful.

I am still nervously waiting on my wife's impending disciplinary action. It's been several months since she received that livid phone call from a league official who said the wheels were already on motion on our disciplinary case and it was too late to stop it.

  • They share a brand for mutual benefit. As far as I'm concerned, they can take the Electrolux and pyrex route and share the mutual pain of the other side being overly capitalist.

Haier & GE in the US can rebrand if they don't like the attention.

I'm trying to remember which company it was that sued their foreign trademark licensee because the partner chose to use inferior parts. The argument they used was that the partner damaged the global brand. It might not be relevant if the licensor is the one that's messing up here.

  • I suspect the dumbfounded reply you received was because one expected the word 'epidemic' to be used instead.

'pandemic' usually is taken to mean it has spread across several international boundaries. 'pan,' meaning 'all.'
