  • Yep same thing with all those ads like 90% fail this. They're designed to drive engagement. Best thing you can do is stop doom scrolling. Failing that, ignoring those obvious attempts to get you to respond.

  • Ah I see. The ads I saw were on billboards so thankfully didn't have to hear them. They were advertising some kind of "Louisiana" style chicken sandwich, which was ironic because the French find black pepper spicy. I can only imagine how mild it must actually be.

  • Empty stores, somehow, store managers had a perverse incentive to keep store inventory levels low. Their prices were really high as well. A rushed SAP implementation meant that executives didn't have enough insight into business operations. You can read more here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_Canada

  • What's telling is that some of Loblaws brands actually went up in the survey. When you own so much of the grocery business and have a captive customer base you can do pretty much whatever. Do we have any antitrust legislation in this country?

  • I think that's a skewed way of looking at it. I can see the appeal if your family is able to take advantage. Like if your kids are off and your spouse doesn't work (or maybe can also work remotely). That way you can enjoy some nicer weather and a different location and are able to stay longer. It's definitely not for me because like you said I'd rather just have a vacation, but I think blaming it on capitalism is a bit of an odd way of looking at what's essentially someone's lifestyle choice.

  • I was definitely recently surprised to see the population of Nova Scotia break 1 million after being stagnant for so long. It's probably overall better for the country to have the population a bit more evenly distributed than it is now
