  • It was apparent to anyone who was paying a lot of attention that he was a narcissist [1] who was willing to lie and break the rules to satisfy his own ambition. There were also subtle indications of this as well.

[1] It apparently no longer exists or is impossible to find now, but prior to the Democratic primary the NY Times did a profile on Adams in his Brooklyn brownstone. It was extravagant, and his comments in the article gave me a strong narcissist vibe. I was already leaning against him, but that pushed me into the "anyone but him" camp. The photo used in the second link is from the photo shoot they did for that article.

  • More importantly, the government minder is there at all times. Even during the handshake, Garcia is looking at him, not the senator. The body language is clear: he's afraid.

I'm sure he was informed prior to the meeting about what he was expected to say and the consequences for not doing as he's told.

  • This first round of industry layoffs are most likely the companies that were already going to lay people off using the tariffs as cover for their own mismanagement.

The next round will be when the real tariff layoffs begin.

  • $150 billion is the target for FY 2025, not what they've actually saved.

And as the article says, we already know that their "receipts" were mostly wrong or bullshit, so even that number will be inflated.

  • It makes me sad that you associate that name with Will Smith more than Isaac Asimov. But this is actually based on the original Atari arcade game. The name was a pun on the book's title, since the gameplay involved an eye and a robot.

Neither the game nor the movie had anything to do with the book other than the name.

  • Couldn't Google say, "OK, we've disbanded the team and we're ending moderation on these things," but actually just, like, do nothing?

Republicans are like their godfather: lazy and uninterested in the details. Would they even know? Or would they just crow about their victory?

  • I guess we'll see. Based on their language, their testing isn't exactly thorough. Their highest rating is "basic compatibility testing" (which I take to mean "played for a few minutes"). Their next highest is "the game boots up."

There are 15,000 Switch titles. Many of those are shovelware, but there are still thousands of legit titles. I guarantee a significant portion of them will never get the necessary patches to run without at least some problems (shader problems, textures, and other glitches).

Of course the 100-something Nintendo titles will get more love and attention than the others. Those patches will also be $20 each.

  • Yep, it's just like the Xbox 360 compatibility program. Don't sell your Switch unless you aren't interested in playing some games anymore. I saw quite a few games I own on the lists, so I'll be keeping mine.

  • As far as I can tell, he's mad that Republicans and Democrats worked together to produce bipartisan legislation.

Salzman said the bill aims to bring transparency to the process of selecting university presidents and other officials.

“By bringing presidential searches into the sunshine, ensuring financial accountability for board members, and empowering students with clear information about their courses and textbook costs, we are reaffirming our commitment to providing affordable, high-quality education to all Floridians. This bill will ensure that our higher education institutions are governed in a transparent and ethical manner, with the best interests of our students and taxpayers as the guiding principle,” Salzman said, according to the Florida House website.
