  • Basically all of my services / automation are all completely isolated.

I have my network setup in such a way, that shutting down the WAN firewall, has basically no impact on anything else internal... other then loss of the default route (aka, the internet).

However, I do host a lot of externally exposed services.... websites, etc.... Since- they are kinda important, I do have monitoring to let me know when they aren't internet accessible.

  • For plugs- Its hard to beat the sonoff S31s

For thermostat, honeywell T6 Pro. https://static.xtremeownage.com/blog/2021/full-local-z-wave-hvac-control/

For just about anything I found cool enough to blog about- https://static.xtremeownage.com/pages/tags/#home-assistant

Also, have not had this one long enough to make a write-up yet- but, regarding presence sensors, this one has blown my mind.... Its incredibly accurate AND tunable!

If you have a specific type of device you are looking for, let me know, and I can prob give some better suggestions.

  • What would be the probability of u/spez being behind this attack, in an attempt to sabotage lemmy?

Lets be honest... he is too busy single-handedly destroy reddit to worry about messing with Lemmy. I think lemmy is the least of his issues right now.

  • I use github for public projects. Easily discoverable and it works extremely well.

    It's also free for FOSS.

For private/internal, inuse gitea. Very small, lightweight, but works perfectly

  • The accounts are gone-

But, communities, posts, comments are all replicated. With a single flip of a bit, you can take that cached copy, and turn it into a local community.

Users would need to re-subscribe/follow/etc, but, all of the data would be there.

  • throwing your vote away

Until everyone stops thinking that way- the same cycle will repeat every 4 years.

Democrats and republicans blaming the person who came into office before them, for all of the countries problems, followed by a lot of election promises they will never keep.

  • Ya know, it's not always democrats versus republicans....

Until everyone stops voting for this bullshit two-party system, it's just going to keep being dems and repubs pointing fingers at each other.

(This- is in no way me providing any endorsement, or affection for whatever candidate is in question. I know nothing about the person).
