telomeres are cells' biological clock... they get shorter with each division, and is the general cause of your body breaking down, round the 80's.
telomerase and other chemicals can reset those telomeres, but also cause the body's existing precancerous cells to go malignant. (telomeres also limit cancer cell growth, and creating telomerase is one of the mutations required for full on cancer)
so, if we can regrow cells telomeres without causing cancer... we have a youth serum.
but there's already other telomerase gene therapy in development anyways...

what's really cool is this plus telomerase will give us a youth serum

it's not targeted, it's just that drugs seem like a better idea the more miserable you are to begin with... so divested locales have it worse.

personally, i see this as a flaw in federation in general. Even diaspora's end goal, originally, was everyone running their own instances.

the biggest hurdle though, is getting people to care. Which happens temporarily, every once in a while... like when reddit fucked everyone over with api changes.

i tried to get everyone i know on diaspora when that was happening... got one person to try it for a second. At least with lemmy i don't have to know anyone else on here, so it just feels like the better og reddit anyways...

it's higher because people use pitbulls for dog fights, etc... if you abuse an animal it's more likely to attack someone.
if you look at stats, getting killed by a rotweiler or a german Shepard isn't that far off.

my solution is to just require all small children carry revolvers... super simple, and those dogs will think twice before attacking them.
