  • Nonono, you've passed the point of getting off that ride.

What's happened here is you came in spouting absolute bullshit with nothing to back it up. Then you got called out for it by this "hipster", and realising that, you're trying to back out by pretending you never wanted to have this conversation in the first place.

Now you're doing the internet equivalent of putting your fingers in your ears and yelling LALALA to convince yourself you're right, and that you're not giving your government a free pass to commit genocide, it's just those damn westerners trying to "make you have morals" and "form sentences that actually mean something".

  • Okay let's break this down into the three unrelated parts:

Which genocides? Sounds to me like you know that the genocides you're referring to actually have huge amounts of evidence, so you're intentionally avoiding saying which specifically to avoid scrutiny.

Most genocides ever committed? The country has only existed since 1776, and humans have been committing genocide for a hell of a lot longer than that.

none that they actually discovered via authentic journalistic investigations

What the hell is that meant to mean? Who is "they"? None of what? What makes a journalist's investigation "authentic"?

  • Yeah actually looking further, I think the account I thought was her actual one may not be - I thought ahedtamimii was the main account due to the naming & number of followers, but on a more thorough look I think it is not.

    I retract my argument

  • They linked a secondary source, which was a twitter post with a screenshot of the supposed Instagram post

That Instagram post, in turn, was not from her actual account, but from a fake account in her name.

Come on man, put just the smallest amount of effort into verifying your sources.

    Edit: am dumb

  • "you say capitalism but yet you live under capitalism, checkmate" doesn't really work, because you don't just get to choose the economic system you live in

Sure, capitalism has brought significant improvements to quality of life, but given that the systems that preceded it were largely feudalism and subsistence farming, that's not really a high bar.

And it certainly doesn't mean that we shouldn't continue to develop economic and social systems that are even more equitable.

  • Some of these are valid, especially #6 and #7

But a lot of them, frankly, just aren't true:

    1. Can't turn off album art or colorized elements changing bright colors while driving

You can turn off the flashy moving stuff entirely with one setting, if you get distracted by a static album art image while driving then you really should be using a hardware device to control playback instead tbh

1a. The last straw for me was when they deprecated car mode entirely

Car mode is still here, and works perfectly well - in fact they've improved the visual clarity recently to make it even clearer

    1. Can't combine your own music

They won't host it for you, but you can absolutely combine the music on your local device with your local library

    1. No normalization adjustments for songs that are too loud or too quiet

There is a setting for exactly this. I personally think there's something to be said for not modifying songs in the background though

    1. No per-device (or at all iirc?) Equalization

Yes there is, afaik it's per-device only

    1. Periodic check-in required

Ehh, this one's kinda fair from a business perspective - it makes sense that the platform would need to verify your subscription occasionally for licensing reasons, but I can see why this would be mildly annoying if you use it very infrequently and are eg on a plane

    1. Constant background app openings

I'm not sure I can say I've seen any issue with this, but if you really don't like it being active in the background, you can just turn off Spotify Connect in the background in settings

    1. Quality is terrible

If the audio quality is audibly bad then it's likely due to not using the very high audio quality setting, or automatic quality adjustment due to network conditions (again, you can turn this off though it may result in buffering)

Honestly, I don't think playing music through the worst speaker you can find is a reasonable way to assess the audio quality - like yeah, no shit it's going to be bad. "Doctor doctor, it hurts when I do this"

Tldr: just look at settings lol

  • Are you aware that this is an article about how the poorly managed transition to capitalism allowed highly concentrated wealth and power, and thus corruption?

postcommunist Europe's economic transition and institutional vacuum provided ideal opportunities for state capture. The most attractive jobs sought by corrupt officials were associated with the privatization process, institutions that regulated business and the customs bureau

  • Okay but the bottom 5 are all capitalist countries.

Even if that wasn't the case, just linking a corruption index doesn't prove your original statement:

corruption is more common where there's no opportunity to make money

Edit: since you've edited and added words, let me add:

I would even go as far as to say that your evidence in fact suggests rather the opposite trend: countries where wealth is more equitably distributed have lower rates of corruption

  • You're right that the US's democracy is deeply flawed. Criticising and discussing how politicians are influenced, and the systems that allow it is great and valuable, especially when those systems are used to influence both major parties.

But to pretend that every single politician is part of some hive mind run by a shadowy cabal, rather than a set of individuals with their own beliefs and aspirations is not only falling prey to conspiracy theories, but also massively damages your ability to actually understand how the systems work, and how its flaws can be mitigated. At the end of the day, regardless of what else may be influencing them, politicians still have to be elected by the citizens.

Opting out of being involved in politics, not voting and just letting the universe run its course doesn't solve the problems or stick it to the man, it only takes away your small piece of influence.

If you don't vote, politicians don't care about you

So vote, protest, have conversations with people about your views and listen to theirs. That's the only way the system will work better for the people.
