  • Fucking idiots. They deserve it. I don’t want them to suffer, but they deserve to. If only we all just didn’t shoot ourselves in the dick at every opportunity. Fuck them for doing this to themselves, and to you, and me. I hate this place so much.

  • Biden isn’t the worst president ever, but he’s a piece of shit. He was entirely not up to the task of our time, and that was obvious in 2020. His presidency had more to do with fulfilling an old man’s lifelong desire to sit in the big seat, rather than meet the needs of the citizenry. It was basically a make-a-wish project for establishment Democrats who desire gentlemanly order and aggrandizement more than any meaningful policy goals. This was a group project, and all of the self-interested facilitators that covered up his senility (going back before the 2020 race), are directly culpable in the emerging feudal reign that Republicans are orchestrating, as well as the unjust murders of hundreds of thousands of innocents in Gaza. I started his administration feeling weary but cautiously hopeful that we may have averted calamity. I end his administration having lost confidence in not only our government, but of our people. I could not have more contempt for the entire American project and all the hollow sentiments that cloak the inhumanity of it. Biden is such a clown.

  • Well, according to the article: “The IRS said it’s distributing about $2.4 billion to taxpayers who failed to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns”

Biden was president in 2021 and in 2022 when 2021 taxes were being filed. Also, the distribution is being authorized now, while Biden is president.

  • How long have people been trying to make smart homes a thing? I feel like this would have happened by now if there was a real mass market for them. It’s not like there is a huge technological impediment to achieving that vision, like there is for VR/AR. In other ways it’s just like VR, a cool idea that’s been around forever, but doesn’t seem to have widespread application or demand.

If apple is really working on this, I consider it further evidence that they are really really struggling to have a substantive vision of the future. Other than incremental improvement of existing products and financially beneficial business maneuvers, what have they done in the last decade other than try to grasp at old sci-fi notions of ‘the future’. I suspect that this can’t change until they get new leadership. Of course, they’ve largely achieved escape velocity in terms of revenue, and are so established now that the money machine will keep working for a long time, independent of any need to be actually visionary.

  • It’s not a crime to make people afraid. It’s provocative, perhaps rude, usually inappropriate, but not a crime. Your paraphrase is exactly the meaning of what she said. There is so much misplaced outrage in this country and this thread. There are people and organizations actively killing and hurting people, and that’s all acceptable to the prevailing culture here. It is appropriate to call them out for their awfulness. If that scares them, that’s a good thing.

  • Peasant brain mentality.

If she said, “I’m going to come kill you.” That would be a threat. Her saying, “actions like what you are doing have gotten people like you killed” or even “you deserve to be killed” are just observations, warnings at most, but not threats.

  • Exactly this. I suspect this group is both young enough to not have to supply their own insurance, or at least young enough to not have faced significant health costs yet. Many people have not yet experienced just how trash the US healthcare system is.
