  • Do you understand that Mexican people can be white? Mexican people can be white. Mexico is a country, not a skin color. That's why demographic questionnaires have "white, hispanic" and "white, non-hispanic" as separate entries.

  • It actually gets really complicated if the damage he does is at the state or local level. A "coup" in the US capital is probably no longer a possibility, but he could cause a lot of chaos if he got a couple dozen scattered enclaves of lawless resistance to lawful voting procedures, and they didn't back down. Are we gonna send national troops to half a dozen different states to make them obey? Is that even constitutionally feasible?

Anywhere we have the slightest doubt about that, we have to act now--Biden has to act now--to guarantee good-faith election management and fallbacks in case it doesn't happen.

  • An actual saved-you-a-click: There's no real reason given in the article. Could be any of 4 different things. It's interesting that they did a statistical analysis on it, but since medical science doesn't work on statistical breakdowns of speech patterns, nobody knows. Article is a waste of time.

(And about this comment thread: Yeah, he sucks, his brain sucks. I don't need to hear from you about it. You're not funnier than the 7 other people in here with that poorly-thought-out bit.)

  • It's more than that, though. A car is essentially an elevated trapezoid in cross-section, and you're sitting near the narrow top of the trapezoid. A Ford F-150 is essentially the same thing, but slightly less tapered and the base is lifted higher up. Either way, you're squeezed into a lot less than that 6.66' of width. Private automobile doors are also much thicker than bus doors, there's space allocated for airbags, there's stuff on the inside of the door that takes up some of the width.

A bus is essentially a rectangular prism projected all the way back. It uses the FULL 8'4, minus the width of the walls, for every row of seats. So it's probably more like 3-4' extra width compared to a car.

  • All I can think is it has to be a massive pain in the ass to do maintenance. You'd have to shut down the whole park and remove a bunch of unrelated slides to fix anything on one ride.

  • Even just based on the headline I thought, "Trying to obscure their motivations from people? Right-wing psyop".

The firm is run by David Langdon, described as a behind-the-scenes conservative lawyer

    There it is.

its mission is to “advocate for minimal government intervention..."

    There it is.

  • Remember, we’re talking about what the “final straw” is that broke the camel’s back.

    Nah, though. We're not.

Howard Dean was squeaky clean when "the scream" happened. He was everyone's favorite, and it was too early to say for sure at that moment but we felt like he could win the whole shebang. Then he screamed and it came crashing down. It wasn't a "final straw". It was the only straw. A straw made of Republican propaganda and enemy action, swallowed by democratic liberals.

As for Jeb Bush, he was underwhelming from the start. Nobody wanted him to be president; probably not even him. "Please clap" was his admission that his campaign wasn't working at all. Again, not a final straw. In this case there wasn't even a camel in the room, just Jeb, giving up.

None of these models applies cleanly to Trump. It's not a "final straw" because there's a mountain of straw; bales of straw as far as the eye can see. It's not Howard Dean for the same reason. It's not Jeb Bush either, because Trump may be faltering but he is literally incapable of throwing in the towel. He doesn't even contain that, as an option.

So I don't know why this one is sticking, but I think we're closer to Jeb Bush territory than Howard Dean. I think everyone but Trump is getting a glimpse of the fact that this is going to be a bloodbath for him.
