  • You wouldn't, of course. Hearing, the way we hear, in such an environment would be useless. We wouldn't have evolved that. This is like saying "ultraviolet radiation from the sun would be everywhere, all the time, can you imagine?" It is everywhere all the time, but as such it isn't a useful sense to possess, so we don't.

This also makes some very weird assumptions about what the sound would be like. If space were a medium sound could travel through then it would--like all mediums capable of carrying a sound wave--alter the wave in many ways. Intensity, frequency, etc. But since we don't know what kind of medium that would be, and since the comment doesn't posit any particular medium, we don't know what the sound would sound like or even how loud it would be.

  • It seems like it would be super easy for them to close this loophole. If you use the model that free tier listeners (real ones) will listen to about the same distribution of songs as the paying listeners, then just stop counting all free tier listeners and multiply the amount paid out for the pay-tier listeners by an appropriate factor to make payouts the same as before.

  • This is what I came here to say. The clarification on the post is not about humans eating plant food, it's about idiot fucking pets eating plant food. They eat grass, why wouldn't they chow down on something that smells like blood.

  • Linus is the leader of the kernel project. As a leader, it's his job to get the maintainers to agree. It's not Rust's job to make the C devs stop bullying them.

If Linus thinks Rust is a good direction, he should show it by actually standing up to Ted and developers like him and making them behave.

If he doesn't think it's a good direction, he should say that too, so the remaining Rust devs can stop wasting time on the project.

When someone in a niche part of the project steps down like this, that's a problem with the top-level leadership. Linus' record on leadership is.. mixed. Trending in a good direction the last few years, but this makes me wonder. He can still save this, but he has to want to.

  • By this logic, get rid of all your food and clothing. You can't get poop stains out of most clothing and obviously you're not going to risk eating food that had poop on it.

Also, go ahead and keep your litter box tools forever.

  • Oregon too. There's also a service where you just give it your voting registration details and an email address and it emails you:

    • when your ballot is mailed to you
    • when it is received back from you
