  • My suggestion is you focus more on learning to use the terminal than figuring out which one to use. Switching terminals is like a micro version of distro hopping without the benefits.

I use ollama for llms, but being a terminal tool, you need to be comfortable using the terminal.

To answer your original question, I use alacritty. Minimal bells and whistles. Just a terminal.

  • I don't have a calculation to back it up, but I'm inclined to believe store bought will always have a cheaper production cost. Your can of beans wasn't made by one person per one can of beans at a time. It is done in a factory producing millions of cans. That kind of industrial process will always be cheaper. It's designed to be that way. Beans can be bought wholesale below the cost available to you. And with that operation at scale it will undoubtedly be more energy efficient per can of beans. The consumer cost is something else. You will save money buying the raw ingredients and making your own beans rather than buying canned.

  • I have a shell script I wrote I call tdiff. If you enter a number it takes it as the number of days and then tells you the date and the day of the week in that number of days. If you enter a date, it tells you how many days until that date.

  • Overwrite wasn't the best choice of words. Display in place of is better. There's a literal option now called "disable hyperchan" If you use that config, you don't need to do anything else. But, having a dev introduce a feature which supercedes users' deliberate choices for his, and his cronies amusement was reason enough to leave.

  • 1st turnoff for me was the creator added this anime background which overwrote whatever background you had. I found the file and wrote a hook to automatically delete it on update reverting to mt background, only to find that there was a condig option to do the same thing

2nd The maintainer is a bigot and I won't support bigotted projects when there are other (better) options like sway which I know use.

TLDR: Creator violates Wheatons Law. I don't like that.

  • It's not a matter of the tools or the times. It's a matter of teachers not engaging students in a way where learning is organic. Natural. Fun. When I was in school, we didn't have ai, but when I was asked a question on an exam "what is Jane Eyre's aunt's maiden name" I lost all respect for the teacher and shut off.

A truly good teacher not only has a mastery of the material, they have a compelling and creative way of delivering the content. Class becomes a page turner. I want to keep reading to find out what's next.

Such people are rare, but they share similarities. First, they form meaningful relationships with students. Beyond surface level things like "what's your pet's name". Relationships where students come to the teacher for life advice. Teachers who also do things like go to student events and cheer for them. Like a tennis match or a piano recital.

Good course design is critical. Grades can not be a punishment or something which causes students stress. Grades are the number one reason students cheat. And why wouldn't they? I hate this thing, and I need straight A's to get into that prestigious school (where I will continue to cheat). Perhaps we should just rid of grades all together.

Now, when I say its matter of teachers not doing X, I'm not blaming them. But ai is on the doorstep, and short of turning schools into more of police states, the only way to change is for teachers to change. And it works. There are those of us who have shaped ourselves this way since before ai was an issue.
