  • As someone that loves going into an office, I wish they let people who didn’t stay at home.

I miss the aspect of the pandemic where people were freer to stay home if they chose, and the roads were so much emptier. It’s better for people to work how they’d like to, it’s better for me trying not to spend an hour commuting, and it’s better for the Earth to have fewer people burning carbon twice a day.

  • It’s scary how many bad people are hoping that Trump wins, from Putin and Xi and their fellow autocrats (e.g. Orban, Kim). Then there’s BB and his right wing cabinet, as Trump won’t give a fuck how many Palestinians die in the war.

All of American’s billionaires and business interests want the tax write off and general cronyism that he enables. And his far right support groups seem to be regrouping and growing.

If there’s going to be election malfeasance, it could come from a variety of sources, not necessarily the usual suspects.

  • Obrador, the outgoing president and Sheinbaum’s political mentor, congratulated Sheinbaum on her win.

“With all my affection and respect I congratulate Claudia Sheinbaum who came out victorious with an ample margin. She will be the first (female) President of Mexico… but also the President, possibly, with most votes obtained in all of the history of our country,” he said in a video posted on X.

Seems on track to be the largest win since 1982, which was a non-competitive election. This is a really impressive result.

  • The benefits have flowed from Trump’s businesses and campaign committees, according to a ProPublica analysis of public disclosures, court records and securities filings. One campaign aide had his average monthly pay double, from $26,000 to $53,500. Another employee got a $2 million severance package barring him from voluntarily cooperating with law enforcement. And one of the campaign’s top officials had her daughter hired onto the campaign staff, where she is now the fourth-highest-paid employee.

Absolutely nothing to see here, just some classic American cronyism /s

  • The authors found that supersharers were disproportionately Republican, middle-aged White women residing in three conservative states, Arizona, Florida, and Texas, which are focus points of contentious abortion and immigration battles. Their neighborhoods were poorly educated but relatively high in income. Supersharers persistently retweeted misinformation manually.

Add this to the list of ways that Karens are taking down our country.

  • Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin has refused calls to bring Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts in for a formal hearing on the issue. Instead, he and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, another senior Democrat on the panel, merely asked Roberts to push Alito to recuse himself on cases related to the 2020 election and to come in for a meeting. According to White House aides, President Joe Biden is reluctant to engage on the controversy because he fears that criticizing the conservative justices will undermine the court’s legitimacy as well as the president’s claim to be a supporter of the country’s democratic institutions and norms

We need some politicians with spines in charge
