  • It’s totally a gamble though. The fact that you have to state that there is nothing wrong with it proves that it is a concern.

So it’s good there was nothing wrong, there was a chance you would be stuck with a $350 brick.

  • I think they blocked European users from using a vpn to access it. Maybe that was part of the reason. Someone else said that it might be the algorithm, but honestly, mastodon doesn’t have that and it’s a great community.

  • I get that they should be paid more for a days work considering their fees, but I’m not really a fan of residuals. I don’t get residuals from my work.

I think I read somewhere that the Friends actors get like $20,000,000 in residuals. Not sure how accurate that is, but they did that work once like 30 years ago. Why are they still getting paid for that?

Maybe this stuff should lose its copyright much sooner then it will belong to the public.

  • No problem, take all the time you need. I know it can be overwhelming to work on a project without serious downtime.

I think we have all taken our time away from our work just to forget for a while.

Hopefully you enjoyed your downtime 🙌

  • I don’t care for the real-time communication aspect of it. In fact i find it unusable.

Am I supposed to just sit there and read random conversation and wait for a point to jump in?

Seems like it takes too much effort.

  • Thanks for the heads up, i guess I just a bit too old to have been part of the discord group.

In the country where I live, it’s all Facebook messenger. It’s a shame as o think a number of people don’t really care for it, but everyone and every business uses it so we are kind stuck.

  • Some time ago people merged contributing to society and being productive with work.

Work is doing something for money, but there are things I would do for free if I didn’t need to earn money to survive.

Teaching, community gardens, organizing social events. These are all things I’d love to do but I have to work like 50 hours a week to survive and safe for the future.

  • I mean just for instances when a page does not work with Firefox.

Like I legit needed to fill out then government form, I don’t know what to tell you. I use Firefox all the time, but the site legit wasn’t working. I can’t skip out on the form and then just tell them, if it didn’t work on Firefox.

  • I hope it’s resourcefulness, but it’s hard to imagine a 14 year old making it on her own for such a long time. But who knows, maybe she was doing bug bounties or freelance work and having the payment go through a corporation to get around the age thing. For like $500/year you can incorporate in some places it might even be less.

  • The second one that recommended chrome, I honestly can’t even really remember what it was.

The local government one is local to just a few city blocks, so I’m not going to share it. But the only thing that didn’t work was when I input my city for example, the next box to select the street did not activate. When I clicked on it no streets were listed. Just a single empty box appeared.

When I did it in chrome I listed my city and then the next box populated with the streets.

I’m not sure if this makes sense, I’m from but not in the US and I’m trying to write about it in a way that makes sense.

  • I feel the same way you do. I’ll try the user agent thing next time. I’m totally all in on Firefox and well safari on iOS, but if they ever allow it to be changed, I’ll be Firefox all the way.

  • Twice in the past few months I came across a site that would not work with Firefox. The other time it actually did work, but said that it recommends chrome to function properly.

The first one was a local government form that would not let me select boxes, but chrome worked without any problems.

The second was some 3d game or something like that.

  • 15 years ago or so, I worked for a bank that made their cards not work at Walmart due to the high rate of fraud there.

When a customer called it, the solution was to tell them this and ask them to use a different card or an atm for cash.

If they only had one card, they were out of luck.

I can’t remember, but they might have been able run the card as debit and use their pin.

Either way, cashless is not a good society.

  • Sadly this is super accurate.

I read these books in the past few years and if you haven’t or haven’t for a while, you should and think about how current society mirrors these dystopian societies.
