New Eminence was great. This season is off to a great start with some solid anime-original additions that really up the humor in my opinion. As for HiDive, I have gotten so frustrated with their player/apps I often bypass it entirely by sailing the high seas of the internet for HiDive shows.
It sounds like a great fit for that. However, these kinds of shows you either vibe with or you don't. So, if you aren't feeling it after episode ~3 or so, just move on. Other shows that fit this role for me would be Azumanga Daioh, Farming Life in Another World, Slime 300, How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift. I would also make a case that Mushishi, Kino's Journey, and Natsume's Book of Friends are also good at that, but can feature darker storylines in some episodes (they are anthologies).
Yeah, the show was frustrating to me. I actually feel like it could have been good, but the pacing felt way off. You can see a previous rant of mine on an episode discussion thread, but the adaptation's pacing felt super inconsistent. Props for having one of the best little sister characters in a while though.
It has been quite a while since I last watched Bebop, I might be due soon (this season is pretty packed for me though). Earlier this year I went back and rewatched Gundam Wing to see how it held up to the version of it that was in my head from watching it on TV after school. I still think it is a really cool series, but if you try to follow the actual plot it is all over the place (13 year old me just didn't care).
Yeah, sometimes you know right away if a show is going to be good or not. I should have heeded those feelings when I watched Am I Actually the Strongest last season. I got like 10 minutes in and was already kind of tired of it.....then proceeded to watch the whole season. This season I am getting those vibes from The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch. I am three episodes in and it hasn't really gotten much better. I am just terrible at dropping a show once I have started.
I have recently finished watching Campfire Cooking in Another World and it was a way better adaptation than I had expected. I am up to date on the manga, but had written off the anime as I figured it would be a fairly sub-par isekai adaptation (like most of them are). However, I was really surprised at how nice the animation was, especially the titular cooking sequences. It actually inspired me to make chicken katsu curry (it was delicious). Also, I love the OP. Like, it is a regular in my daily listening now it is so good. Really...check it out (long version).
After finishing that, I started watching Zombie Land Saga. I actually picked this one completely randomly from my library and went in completely blind. I must say, the cold open of episode 1 caught me completely off guard. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this show before I started, but it has turned out very different than I expected. Other highlights include the performance in episode 2, and the VA work for Kotaro (really, it is incredible).
Finally, on a meta note, I just want to thank everybody for engaging in the thread about episode discussions over the weekend. There were a lot of great ideas and points raised in the course of that discussion.
Natsume is a pretty good suggestion. There are some episodes that can have sad themes, but not any worse than you find in Disney movies aimed at kids. Also, there is a lot of content so you can just turn it on and let it play for a while to keep them busy. Finally, it is an anthology, so episodes are self-contained stories for the most part, so if they get distracted and miss the plot of an episode, its not really an issue.
I liked this episode better than the opening, My big complaint about the first two episodes is that there was too much ecchi that felt really out of place. This episode there was no ecchi to be seen (other than some random S&M slaves of the one aunt? idk, that one is still weird).
One thing that I did find a bit weird is how many transitions they have in this show. They had a dozen or more instances of a quick transition with a spinning face icon and it really disrupted the flow of scenes. It did not surprise me when I looked up the source manga to find out that it is a 4 koma format. However, I feel like you can adapt a 4 koma better without excessive use of transition sequences like that (see Tomo-chan for instance).
Enjoyed the first episode a lot. It's good to see that they have kept the meta-humor feel to the series. In the manga, there are lots of meta-jokes referencing things like panels, the artist, chapters, etc. So, I am glad to see that during the conversation with the god, that the meta-jokes remain strong when he talks about getting lines cut from the manga and then we literally see a skip button and a mouse click it like its a game or something. This one looks like it will be a lot of fun. Kind of funny that this is airing the same season as Kanojo mo Kanojo.
Enjoy! This one is a treasure. The sad news is that the manga is over, these are just some of the bonus chapters that are coming out as the final tankoubons are released. The good news is that there is an anime adaptation that has been announced (though I don't think there is a release date yet).
I agree that a weekly pinned thread where non-seasonal anime could be discussed would be great. I also watch some older shows and there isn't anywhere in this community currently to discuss them other than just creating a new post; which a lot of people like yourself tend to find a high barrier to entry.
I see, so the top level replies in the megathread would be the equivalent of an episode thread and discussion of that episode would be replies to the bot's top level comment? That could help, though it would be even better if lemmy allowed for replies to be automatically collapsed like the source corner posts in the reddit threads.
I thought that this moment might be a good point to ask peoples' opinions because of the temporary outage so that people saw what it might be like without the bot. I personally agree with you that automation can be beneficial and help facilitate community involvement. Also personally, I think that the current Shinobu is great, but wanted to see what others thought.

Same. Faced with the prospect of having to manually make episode posts going forward, I actually spun up a wiki for myself to more easily be able to copy paste all the markdown for each show involved in the posts.
It would certainly require a major rework or a new bot entirely, but I made this thread for brainstorming ideas and getting peoples' opinions. This isn't a bad idea, though I think it might run into incidental spoiler exposure similar to another idea in this thread. I like the idea though of consolidating many threads into a periodic megathread of some kind. Weekly makes sense to me, similar to the airing page on anichart.
Yeah, this is what I am worried about. I don't personally really mind it, but I sympathize with those that would find it annoying. In general, I have seen a fairly negative sentiment towards bots of any kind on Lemmy, so I wanted to get a feel for what others in this community think.
I see what you are saying. The one thread/season would definitely cause some spoiler issues unless there were some strict moderation. Your idea caused me to think of something like a pinned megathread with actively airing shows and their episode thread links in a table. Then, you could have the bot post the discussion threads to a separate, dedicated, bot-run community that houses all the automated threads. This would leave /c/anime more clutter-free, even if there is little activity on a lot of shows.
