  • Prime Minister Keir Starmer aims to improve relations but won’t re-enter the single market, as both sides cautiously rebuild ties.

I get that right now feelings are still raw in Europe and the UK would get a shit deal that would probably undo the (imminently sensible) desire to forget Brexit happened, but Labour needs to be careful they don't follow the US Dems down the same path they took in never codifying abortion. It's more politically expedient to have a persistent bludgeon to use on the other party than it is to fix the mistake, but eventually there are political consequences either way.

  • Now THAT is a good idea. I was undecided today, but decided to go with Boiled Peanuts Classic. They're good of course, but Cotton Patch will always be a little sus because they spell both "boiled" and "peanuts" correctly.

I've been boiling my own lately and supplement the salt with a generous helping of Adobo "all purposes seasoning", which is mostly garlic salt. Very nice flavor, but the only raw peanuts I have access to are dry as dust and still a bit too firm after a good six hours of boiling, and that is a lot of work and energy when no one else in the house even likes them.

  • If Adventure Bay is a black site, why do they need a cover story?! Checkmate!

Clearly, Rider is actually a Canadian Richie Rich and the region is under the thumb of his family as a de facto company town, and the experiments have to do with whether you can cram 80%-90% of an entire metropolitan area's public services budget into a tiny, easily managed core of genetically engineered puppies managed by a single nepobaby. With economy of scale and the potential for control of information and access, it would be extremely lucrative.

  • I went to a tiny K-12 private school for my last two years of high school. I was the "best" shot and disc thrower on a pair of very, very weak years for the track & field team (tell me again how Clay from '95 got recruited by Harvard, Brianna... ONE... MORE... TIME... PLEASE 😤).

The thing about that is when a team is that stretched for bodies and coaches, the middle school kids will practice with the high schoolers, and if you think high schoolers don't pay attention, imagine a gaggle of 13 year olds who are mostly doing this because it counts as a semester of PE (I understand that by grabbing them early they eventually developed several of them into decent middle-distance runners). I never actually hit one, but especially in my senior year I spent a lot of time yelling at tweens to get the hell out of the discus cone, and even had a couple of kids almost get their toes broken by a little 25-foot standing throw from one of the other kids I was silently conned into coaching once the adults all realized my annoyance came out as profane but helpful instruction.

I won a Team Spirit award for it, but didn't care enough to remember when the team banquet was, LOL.

  • I imagine it's a combination of having a gum ridge like human babies (which can HURT, btw), having more agile tongues than humans, and the fact that their adorable little howl faces can still generate enough of a seal.

  • It's uneven but never worse than "okay" IMHO. It gets clowned on occasionally because its three best episodes are a Covid zoom episode and two standalone stories that depart from the main cast and plot almost entirely, but overall it's still a fun riff on some of the same themes as Silicon Valley, if a bit slight.

  • Yeah, as deliciously ironic as it is that it was Thomas who was tasked with this, lower courts are supposed to rule based on precedent, and if anybody is going to overturn that precedent, it needs to be SCOTUS. Now, back in the day that would be done to overturn bullshit like Dred Scott v Sandford or Pace v Alabama once people finally got their heads far enough out of their assholes.

    This court? Not so much.

  • We'll see if Abbott's pre-emptive and wasteful bootlicking gets him anything, but the one thing Trump knows how to do is figure out who's too beholden to him (or too set against him) to actually get any resources they ask for. Money is for buying people off and buying gold plated junk.

  • the guy playing Quasi

Sam Richardson is a treasure who is not always in excellent projects, but he elevates every project he’s in with his excellence. He’s perfect in Veep, and his guest appearances in Ted Lasso are brilliant.

  • The video of a trash can in Orlando that my kid took when she was three is a better movie than Rebel Moon.

Section 31 was better than either, though it was an underwhelming mess of throwaway nonsense.
