  • Although not something I could see myself doing, I don't judge. People can be too busy for dating, out of practice, too awkward or just wanting to cross off something off their bucket list. At the very least it ain't my business.

  • I know.

The permits, policies, regulation and political apparatuses which Rand so despises are legal fictions which allow a small group of people control, who gets to use what resources and how.

Currencies, fractional reserve banking, patents and land ownership are similar legal fiction, which allow a small group to control who gets to use what resources and how.

If I want to sell razor blades to a Gillette razor, I will get sued for patent infringement. Is their gatekeepping somehow more morally valid than the politician's who gives a tax break to Gillette's competitor since their production line is in his city?

I was trying to humorously point out, that the quoted part of Rand's text could be read almost as a socialist opinion, where the value created arises from the worker and not the owners.

  • It seems to me this passage speaks against the bankers, intellectual property owners, monopolists, land owners and the like. All gate keepers of resources.

Perhaps Atlas is actually someone else than Rand thought.

  • I have engineered a solution for exactly this, believe it or not.

The shower system consists of carbon doped ferrous material coated with a zinc passivation agent. There is a flow control subsystem made of a Cu-Zn alloy which also causes aerosolization of the hydrogen-oxygen payload. The hydrogen-oxygen mixture is pre-processed in a large volume nitrogen container, and precipitated down to the shower system using a combination of thermal effects and manipulation of ambient pressure.

Works really well, only limitation is the amount of precipitate available.

In other words, it's a metal rain bucket with a faucet.

  • I have done more work on OpenSeaMap. It started with me being annoyed with plotters costing too much and ended in me using many hours to mark down rocks from satellite images.

It's still pretty basic and there is no good way of collecting water depth info, but fun to improve it.

  • There is, but it applies to devices which are mostly operated in wet conditions. Here is a quote from the commission's decision:

... batteries concerning appliances that incorporate portable batteries and that are specificallydesigned to be used, for the majority of the active service of the appliance, in an environment that is regularly subject to splashing water, water streams or water immersion and that are intended to be washable or rinseable.

  • Here is what we have done

    • A three piece mosquito net AND a cloth hanging at the door. The combination of two barriers is very effective
    • Stainless steel mosquito netting in a removable frame on all windows (no maintenance abd easy to remove)
    • Same net for all ventilation holes
    • A mosquito magnet CO2 attractor outside
    • A UV bug zapper inside (I don't like them outside, as they will mostly kill butterflies and other non-annoying insects)
  • That is what they are saying which is pretty disingenuous. The entire point of the law is to target multinationals which cannot be reined in by national legislation.

Boo hoo, the poor tiny Amazon doesn't want to take responsibility.
