Gambling addictions are literally identical to the effects of a hard drug permanently altering your neurological pathing and brain chemistry. Take a psychology 101 class.

Thats why its called a gambling addiction.

Thats why there are a fuck load of laws around gambling.

Thats why lots of people want it against the law to put in video games.

Thats why literally everyone of sound mind is telling you that this is a horrid thing to do to a child

Getting a child addicted is not the way to try and find out if they have an addictive personality.

These are designed to be addictive. You would be getting your child addicted to these loops early, grinding in that mentality early, and letting them loose into adulthood.

My previous comment already says this. With metro exodus, they expected people to rebuy the game on epic, and only reversed the decision after the immediate backlash.

Which, mind you, is not a game they developed nor published. Your valve example is the owner of the game moving their own game into their own brand new launcher, with conflicting claims of repurchase. Epics example is buying out a random hyped games release and scrambling to backtrack after it blew up in their face

Thats a level of convenience that will probably get me to grab the extension, but Im glad firefox has that as a feature anyway

Or they launched a new launcher, and did what every single other game publisher does when they launch a new launcher, and ported all of their own personal titles into the launcher?

Because with metro exodus, until mass backlash caused them to revert the decision, everyone who had preordered the game on steam needed to refund the purchase and repurchase it within the epic store. Only after backlash did they honor steam prepurchases.

And even then, they struggled with the fact that all the physical orders still had steam codes, despite the game apparently not being allowed to be owned on steam.

All of this happening 2 weeks before the game release.

Is that feature default for vanilla firefox? Or do you need to go fiddle in settings to turn that on

Show me when steam forced people who had paid for a game from a completely different retailer to rebuy the game on steam, while completely deactivating the copy that was already purchased.

Because if your preservation method is "let other people do it for me and Ill pirate it when I want it," you arent preserving anything. Full stop, that is not preservation. Someone else is doing that for you. In the same way "just buy your veggies from safeway" isnt home grown gardening.

You are on lemmy, I dont really think I should explain to you why you cannot trust a public profit driven company to have your interests at heart. They are capable of just deleting your data the second it benefits them to do so, and you have no real recourse or defense from that. Personal usage is fine, and taking that risk is fine, but that is not adequate preservation of media. Youre not preserving things.

Duplicates are also sort of an expected precaution for preservation. If you are preserving media, you should have at least 1 duplicate, and 3 copies is probably ideal.

Like. If you dont want the hassle of trying to preserve things thats fine. But preservation is something you shouldnt take lightly if youre trying to do it, because your copy may be the only surviving copy a century or longer from now.

I know you can google "X media option degredation." You do not need me to link you to a search engine. If youre advocating methods of preservation, you should already know this information.

But if you think paying a company for cloud storage is "potentially indefinite," I dont think you should be giving preservation advice.

Especially with a sentence like "you can probably just re-pirate it in 50 years." Thats so completely nonsensical.

Digital media has a shelf life of 5 years before damage, even sooner if the hard drive sits unrun. CDs have 50, and thats just the rewritables.

If you are trusting a for-profit company to maintain your preservation attempts, youre as dumb as those poor bastards stuck with discontinued and unsupported eye and ear implants who suddenly lost vision and hearing when the company stopped maintaining the software.

Especially if you are trying to preserve any data you legally do not own. They arent your friend, youre barely their customer, and they will dump you and your data the second it might make them more money or cause them less legal trouble.

If you think me giving you things you want that cost you money elsewhere for free is anti-you, you shouldnt be having this conversation. Full stop. Video games arent meth.

For most of these, turning off touch controls means that when you accidentally trigger the touch commands, it plays a little jingle and pushes a notification telling you that youve disabled touch controls and you need to reenable them.

Completely defeating the fucking point of turning off touch controls, and making me want to wrap my hands around the throat of the idiot who designed that

Then buy phones with headphone jacks. Mine has one, I dont buy ones without it.

If it matters for you to have it, dont buy phones that cut it. If models with it keep selling, theyre less likely to ditch it.
