  • Yes, some people will literally waste 100x more resources, in mental energy and time, than the price of admission to complain.

But my point was that this type of criticism can be ignored - if you get 1000 sales and 2 people turn out to be dickheads you shove them in the (mental) bin.

  • I hope this is clever marketing from the developer because I had never heard of this game until now and also because I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would abuse an indie developer for $2.

I understand some people might do that, but they'd have to be a tiny percentage.

  • Wait, so the family chose to keep two people out of the loop until they caved and bought new hardware instead of adding one more app that would be common for everyone and give everyone the option to use whatever hardware they wanted?

  • More likely they've been inundated for years with complaints from developers in the big studios about how fucked they feel, and they feel the industry has gone to hell with microtransactions, so they keep on propping up Larian as an antidote to the general rot.

Not sure it will make a difference until big studios games stop selling, some government intervention in the microtransactions (likely) or work conditions (unlikely), developers unionize properly, or the field is seeded with more studios like Larian so that more developers and gamers have more choices and the big studios are starved.

  • As an individual and as a group.

    1. Join A Union - if you are on a salary of any level, join a union. Unions are a force for equalisation of power, a proper seat at the negotiating table and a "third space" of discussion of grievances, finding common ground, resolving worries and deciding on action.
    2. Involvement in local politics, local becomes state, becomes national.
    3. Until, public holiday, mandatory, and ranked choice voting is introduced (if ever), after you advocated for as much change as possible, you voted for the best candidate in the primaries, vote for the candidate that has a chance of winning. Not voting or protest voting does worse than fuck all.
    4. Do not give up on set backs. Get involved. Demand better.
  • Because the upside is immense and the downside is insignificant. The actual risk to them is tiny. They have a lot to gain (0 tax, government contracts, favourable judges, pliable lawmakers), and worst case their man doesn't get the office, they're roughly where they are now.

The potential collapse of society is someone else's problem - if they thought on how their actions affect society or the planet they wouldn't have the money they have.

  • What's the downside for them? They either win big or things stay roughly the same and they might pay some extra tax but not much. No one (of them) is losing their bulk of their wealth or their freedom. Might as well roll the dice.

  • This is expected.

A lot of gullible people believe the first thing they hear that resembles an explanation in events that have nothing that feels substantial even if it's nonsense.

What would not be expected is if at the next natural disaster Biden comes out within a minute in a national address and claims that God revealed to him that this is just the start and a warning so that America would not reelect Trump.

Then watch the nuts lose their fucking shit at being overshadowed at their grift.

  • A drop of water in a desert of cash-grab remakes that are significantly worse than the originals because everyone in production knows it's a cash grab and has no creative input other than pumping another one out.

  • It has little to do with that, the problem is structural. They're beating the left because the political system is structured in a way that gives overwhelming advantage to the establishment with minority votes.

Their 35% wacko views are treated as equal to the 65% both by the political system and by the media - see manufacturing consent.

Meanwhile the left wing candidates or proposals are always both too left and not left enough - the pincer maneuver.

Take any issue and see how the left view is scrutinized in the mainstream compared to the right: Biden cancelling student debt? Both too left and not left enough. Obamacare? Same. Guns? Same. Pick your poison.

  • If they can leverage Russia's mal/misinformation network to win, Ukraine is a sacrifice they're willing to make. It's a big fucking gun that's controlling a lot of the conservative information space, they don't want it turning against them - they don't give a fuck about anything so long as the grift continues.

  • No probably about it.

Mechanical watches lose 10-15 secs per day which declines as they get older or aren't serviced, a $40 Casio might miss 30 secs per month, never needs servicing other than a battery change.

Mechanical watches are no longer utility items, they are fashion items that happen to tell time.

  • To be fair, plenty of sex tapes have leaked or "leaked" with a lot of noise over the years, very few people have translated them to massive wealth (games, reality shows, modelling, branding, appearances etc). Whoever is managing them (their mum perhaps?) is very smart in at least that they know how to leverage opportunity, and they're smart enough to listen to that person.

  • If Wikipedia is accurate the previous school shooting in Finland was 12 years ago - it doesn't seem like an epidemic.

Meanwhile in the US, there are between 1-4 school shootings per month that result in injuries or deaths. I don't think I've heard the 2 or 3 for March on the news.
