  • I don't understand how this gets him free of the loans. My understanding is that he financed $14B of the Twitter purchase with loans secured against Tesla stock. That $14B worth of twitter stock was then owned by Musk and he also had a loan.

This was an all stock purchase, so xAI stock was exchanged for equivalent value of Twitter stock (keep the old name to keep it clear). Now Musk's twitter stock that he bought with the $14B will become the equivalent value of xAI stock, and he still has the loan that bought it in the first place.

Unless $14B of stock has been sold somewhere to repay the loans they still exist.

Edit: just an addendum. Personally I think stock-for-stock trades should be illegal. Force the parties to move through cash. There's too much smoke and mirrors hidden by skipping steps. In this case xAI should have had to raise the capital to purchase X. If it can do it through selling stock so be it, but it's not a wholely internal affair.

  • People in the thread are talking about limewire, but I think they are missing the bigger reference here.

Downloading games, burning them onto CD-Rs and then using a Sharpie to make the inner tracks of the disc unreadable as they contained the copy protection.

My only confusion is that I swear it was Playstation and not PC that worked like this.

  • I believe some people have been ordered to archive the chat so that it can be presented to Congress in the future. Trouble is, looking at the screenshots it's already gone as they had the message lifetime set to a week.

I wonder if this will be seen as destroying evidence .

  • You emigrate to Italy and then you'll be an immigrant from the US. One's a verb, the other a noun.

Once you have Italian citizenship you'll be able to live an work anywhere in the Schengen region. So a lot more options once you're in.

  • ....with the vast majority unaware how many people were enslaved, how long the trade went on for, or for how long UK taxpayers were paying off a government loan to “compensate” enslavers after abolition.

Talk about having your cake and eating it.

Taxpayers paying for the freedom of enslaved people shows how dedicated the British people were to ending the Atlantic slave trade. The fact that they try to use this as a negative in our history stuns me. You can spin it as "compensating slavers" but the fact is the person was free. And at that time the UK did everything in it's power to free as many as it could by any method.

Yes, the empire has it's history with slavery and British citizens were involved in the slave trade. However British sailors died fighting to end to transatlantic slave trade. Sometimes, I expect there was British on both sides.

If you're going to educate people about our history you have to teach the negatives and the positives, and not spin the one in to the other.
