    03-04-05 -- Kushner, Charles -- Sentencing -- News Release

Political Contributor and Developer Charles Kushner Sentenced to Maximum 24 Months for Witness Retaliation and Other Crimes

NEWARK - Real estate developer and political contributor Charles Kushner was sentenced today to 24 months in prison for his pleas of guilty to assisting in the filing of false tax returns, retaliating against a cooperating witness and making false statements to the Federal Election Commission, U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie announced.

Calling Kushner's crime "disgraceful and reprehensible," U.S. District Judge Jose L. Linares sentenced Kushner to the top of the eligible range - 18 to 24 months - under the his plea agreement with the government.

"The court of law was the great equalizer for Mr. Kushner, who had obviously convinced himself that his power, influence and immense wealth put him above the law," Christie said. "We are very pleased that justice was done."

Judge Linares ordered Kushner, 50, of Livingston, to surrender to the federal Bureau of Prisons by May 9 to begin serving his sentence. Judge Linares also fined Kushner $40,000, the maximum amount as determined under U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

On Aug. 18, Kushner pleaded guilty to 16 counts of assisting in the filing of false tax returns, one count of retaliating against a cooperating witness and one count of making false statements to the FEC.

Kushner admitted then that, as chairman of Kushner Companies, he assisted in filing false tax returns claiming over $1 million in partnership charitable contributions as office expenses, causing losses to the IRS of between $200,000 and $325,000.

Kushner further admitted at his plea hearing that he devised a scheme to retaliate against a cooperating witness - his sister - and her husband by having a prostitute seduce the husband and covertly filming them having sex. Kushner admitted that he paid a private investigator $25,000 to arrange for the seduction and videotaping of the cooperating witness' husband. Kushner admitted to personally recruiting the prostitute and instructing that the videotape be mailed to the cooperating witness.

Kushner also admitted to making false statements to the Federal Election Commission which allocated campaign contributions to certain individuals who had no knowledge that contributions were being made in their names and had not consented to him making the contributions.

Christie credited Special Agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Joseph Billy, Jr.; and Special Agents of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation section, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Patricia J. Haynes.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Scott Resnik and Thomas Eicher of the Special Prosecutions Division.

  • Microsoft doesn't own it, they didn't program it. They paid a license fee to the developer to include it in Windows XP.

  • This is what lawyers are for. They knowingly conspired to break TOS over the span of a decade after being politely prompted to pay for the service they stole. I love FOSS but the service side is not free and should not be the whipping boy of for profit companies. Fight back FFS.

  • I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he first learned about it just after the debate with Trump. I read (on the internets so not sure how true) that this cancer often presents itself as causing a UTI. And UTIs often cause delirium and disorientation in elderfolk. Just like he seemed to have during the debate. So my theory is he didnt step down because of the bad debate performance but because his doctors then found the cancer and told him he would likely not make it through the next term.

  • Everyone seems to have forgotten that POTUS's health conditions are a state secret. FFS they even take a portable toilet (or probably just a garbage bag as a liner) for him to shit in when traveling to foreign countries so they can't collect the turd for forensic analysis of his health.

  • I want the LLMs to be able to determine their source works during the query process to be able to pay the source copyright owners some amount. That way if you generate a Ms Piggy image, it pays the Henson Workshop some fraction of a penny. Eventually it would add up.

  • It used to be the worst app because Netflix was so damn good. Then Netflix took a shit all over their user experience and jacked prices to the tits so we cancelled them. And HBO got bought by Time Warner who is actively antagonistic towards streaming because the CEO just looks at their entire catalog as a tax writeoff - so the max app is fucking dreadful.

Then Apple decided to make things suck less and they succeeded. The one thing they screwed up is there is no way to disable that obnoxious auto-play bullshit at the end of each episode. All of the other apps are now so bad that we exclusively subscribe through the appletv app. My wife likes giving money to paramount for some reason - but at least if we do it through the apple app there are no ads.

  • looky here we got us a man who earned a 99 in cleaning out the shithouse. Grab a shovel, "Professor".

  • I say we let them fight to the death to see which one is smarter. I'm putting extra money on the Philosophy Professor going on a rant about how physical combat has nothing to do with intelligence - and getting struck down in the midst of his soliloquy.

Biology Professor: "Survival of the fittest!"

  • A lifehack that might wind you up in federal prison. Breaking company equipment is one thing and it might cost you your job and a small settlement. That's the kind of advice I don't mind giving. I do generally try not to tell people to commit felonies.

  • Eh. OP already told us they had no integrity. Ever met a truck driver? The overwhelming majority of them have no morals or integrity. There's a reason why. It's because they get to get paid for not being around people - it attracts people who suck. Not all truckers suck but the overwhelming majority of them do. I can't post something that will suddenly make some of them read it and go "By gum... I should become a better person!" But I can post some shit that might make their boss's job more difficult and possibly get OP fired which might be funny in a chaotic-evil kind of monday morning shitpost way.

  • Well the whole bit about backing out the nut is to cause it to fail in a manner that looks more like a maintenance problem and not a driver problem. Even when stuff like that only happens on one cab, it's not enough to point at a singular driver.

And yeah all of that advice comes with the rider that "you may be unemployable" afterwards.

  • Whoa I had no idea of those functions. I just checked the documentation and I already know a hundred places I could use those.

  • Usually they just flag events like really hard braking or other high-g events, speeding, travelling off-route if you pay for that module, and operating hours. At least that's the easy to tattle stuff. They're not smart enough to do anything like drive for you.

But some operators DO need to calm the fuck down and just obey the speed limit. These things usually let their manager know they're shitty drivers before the police let them know they're shitty drivers and they subsequently lose their DOT certification.
