Drive (s) wrecked?

I did not see any. Gparted would have shown them to me, right?
Now the 2TB drive has received 88GB so far - the write continues.
Some drives work fine. Some fail. Some work fine then fail later. But it seems hitting them with gparted to create a single ext4 partition works, brining a 5gb drive back from that state and allowing writes if I write to the partition. If I try to zero the raw device it still fails at 5gb.
Drive(s) because I have a 2tb drive (I am currently working with) and several 1tb drives and many smaller ones.
Created a 2tb partition with gparted now writing to failure with dd. Up to 41gb so far.
This enclosure was working up till when I stopped a dd to try something faster.
I do not have another available, nor do I have an internal SATA slot available.

I am a private person without any state or corporate secrets in hand. I do not do online banking.
My threat model I believe is limited to random drive-by actors.
I was hoping to be able to provide these drives to others to use, the screwdriver and hammer will render them into E-waste. But on that issue, once the platter assembly is disassembled and the platers are separated and mixed up the data on them is probably not recoverable? With the given that each drive has multiple platters.
Not in my case.
After I posted :
I ran hdparm --security... and did not get an error.
Then I ran hpparm -I and found that the drive did not have the secure erase feature.
So I did not get the error on a drive that should have errored. I am guessing the Security Erase command just spews the appropriate command at the drive and nothing Is reported back.
Then you move your privacy concerns to your ISP.
I guess that explains it. btw I created a user on Lemmy.ml a while ago, way before the reddit kerfuffle, but I think my home will be Lemmy.one - I also have users on one or two other instances, does it mess up anything to have "waspentalive" appear on several instances?
The DD continues now at 170Gb of 1024 - a long way to go... 25mb / s
