Perseid Meteor Shower 2023 Is This Weekend

  • It happened with some companies in recent years I think due to more people working remotely and they decided they might be able to try to capitalize on such capability as an "extra feature" but I think there are some plans that include it in their package (as it was previously, before being decoupled)

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

If You Were Born Rich, How Would Your Life Be Different From What It Is?

  • well psychology can be pretty non-scientific for one

Psychology is not a scientific field because it does not meet the five basic requirements for a field to be considered scientifically rigorous: clearly defined terminology, quantifiability, highly controlled experimental conditions, reproducibility, and predictability and testability.

lust might be another problem like gluttony for another

  • haha, sounds impossible, right?! It becomes possible because you put your fingers between two vertical keys, so you can do it with the 4 fingers on each hand on the home row keys (asdf jkl;) - try for example putting a middle finger between "E" and "D" on a keyboard and pressing them both at the same time

edit: you could hit more keys by putting your finger in the middle of four of them

  • I got a lot of downvotes on this on lemmyworld but I may be speaking from a different perspective of already assuming that there are certain physical or scientific factors involved... it just doesn't seem like enough to explain all the obesity we see in the world

also there seems to be some confusion, either all the factors are known for losing weight and people won't do it (which is some kind of choice or spiritual issue), or we don't know what all the factors are and you couldn't in theory rule out something extra-scientific or there is more to the story... which is what we should discuss (I could see people disagreeing with me and having a good discussion about it but the downvotes seem like a little much)

  • I guess 4/32 would be most accurate, but I think a lot of these pushes for four day weeks are not for 10 hour days but 32 hours with fulltime pay

some are calling for 6 hour days whether on 4 or 5 day weeks which is another topic for discussion in perhaps anotger post or here as well

Obesity as a Spiritual Problem, the Vice of Gluttony?

  • say I'm a flat earther, I say you look at the oceans and they're flat, and you look at water and would expect it to just spill over (how can it be flat on a round earth? it makes no sense how the waters look on a round earth...)

or say you acknowledge that the composite images of the "Blue Marble" view of the earth have been faked: https://qz.com/192700/the-guy-who-created-iphones-earth-image-explains-why-he-needed-to-fake-it

how do we know the earth is the shape it is then if people are not honestly giving photographic evidence of its shape?

Or say with GPS, I say that could be done on the land, there is no need to rely on satellites. Then how do we need to believe in satellites orbiting the earth, when land operations are sufficient for explaining them?

Or say someone says they don't know why people are lying about the earth being flat, when we know it is. What are they trying to hide by lying about its obvious flat shape?

and so on, to give you an idea of how a conversation might go
