  • "Death" would be the noun, "die" the (intransitive) verb. "Dead" would be the adjective, i.e. the condition.

Although it has to be said that there's a lot of flexibility and I'm pretty sure you could find valid ways to use each of them in all cases.

  • I'm very, very happy with the 9800X3D, so you can save yourself a bit of cash there to put towards the GPU. With a fast modern CPU like that, you might even consider an Intel B580 to relieve that GPU bottleneck.

  • Yikes. How do you handle it - try not to think about it, stay out of the house? Dark humour and fucked up jokes? Do you interact with her much? Any opinions on her?

Edit: sorry haha I know this isn't an AMA 😅

  • Musk breaks silence

WHAT silence? That asshole has been the source of a rising crescendo of bullshit covering an increasingly broad range of topics on which he is absolutely unqualified to comment for years. The miracle would be if he managed to shut the fuck up for several consecutive moments.

  • I agree but that's irrelevant. The public's approval of a person only matters if that person was elected to a position by the public. Musk was not elected, so his approval ratings amongst the public do not matter.

  • Oh, I see, you took my comment as directed at OP. Not so. As mentioned there is a strong current of anti-AI sentiment on Lemmy, and it's often in the vein of "there's no soul" etc. I was taking aim at that in the context of OP's comment (because it raises an excellent point), not OP themselves.

  • Am I, indeed? In my view, either AI art is nothing like human art in which case it's easy to distinguish, or it's similar enough that it's not easy to distinguish, in which case it's got to be at least very similar.

There's no middle ground here, you can't logically hold the belief they're obviously fundamentally different but hard to distinguish from one another.

If you disagree with that and want me to agree with you, you're gonna have to tell me why it's wrong. Sorry, I don't just change my mind at "nuh-uh" 🤷

  • proving something is human created and definitely not AI is hard

Is it? I thought we could just look for the soul and/or intention in the art? Because as everyone on Lemmy knows and is always saying, AI art isn't art because it lacks both soul and intention. Therefore, it should be easy to tell it apart from real proper human art. Shouldn't it?

  • I wish more people could understand the brutal reality of these situations without having to live them. It's not just chanting and throwing a punch or three, and then going home. It's going to be horrible and nothing will be the same afterwards; a lot of people we love are going to die, and the outcomes we want aren't guaranteed, even if we win. If it's a fight that has to happen, then it will, but nobody should be looking forward to it even grimly.

  • Straight representation isn't a "thing of the past", it's alive and well. If you're going to attempt a straw man fallacy your going to have to twist my words without breaking the meaning.

  • That's ridiculous. For decades it was nothing but straight representation and now there's a few with anything different you complain that you feel underrepresented? Much strong, very alpha, "real man".

  • If you want "straight representation", you've had your pick of games with that for over four decades, arguably five.

People don't get mad because you "point it out", they get mad because you're wrong and too smug to see it.
