  • Yeah... I get the point but like, man, there's a reason we feel helpless out here. I'll probably still hear about political stuff through sheer osmosis, but what can I do to affect presidential actions other than vote?

The only things within my power are local, mutual aid type stuff, which is important, but has no effect on what Trump et al can or cannot get away with at a federal level.

I dunno. Maybe I'm just overly pessimistic.

  • Yeah, that's fair.

My guess is X will always be around, but a best case scenario is it dwindles in relevance and it becomes just another social media site, instead of the relative giant it is. The good news is Twitter was always an energetic but comparatively small social media network (relative to Facebook and Instagram). Really all it needs to fade into irrelevancy is the loss of those driver accounts that feed the rest of the site.

    Fingers crossed, I guess.

  • Depends on who is leaving, I'd say. The biggest draw to Twitter, from my outside perspective anyway, is news. Headlines, sure, but especially live, on the ground coverage.

If news orgs quit X, that'll be a big blow. Some left already, but I can't remember who it was off the top of my head.

But if breaking news, like protesters posting updates live, start coming majority from somewhere other than X (most likely Bluesky at this point), that will really signal the beginning of the end for Xs relevancy.

Just my $.02, to be taken with a large grain of salt.

  • Not necessarily applicable to everybody, but if you find yourself with a short fuse, I highly recommend getting checked out for sleep apnea.

Imagine going to sleep for 8-10 hours a night but always feeling a bit tired and very irritable. Because in reality, you barely sleep at all. That's what sleep apnea does, and I can personally start that, if that's your problem, addressing it is a world changer.

  • The problem then was the immaturity of Linux for gaming. Valve has done a shit ton of work to make that possible and focused on a specific experience with the steam deck for several years. Now they're just expanding and building on that success, which is awesome to see.

  • I would try not to take systemic critiques (especially unsubstantiated ones like this) personally.

But maybe that's just easy for me. I don't give a shit about what anyone says about me or what I should do, unless I purposefully care about those people's opinions (family, friends, etc).

  • Some people really do just like the repetition. I have a couple friends that regularly log into multiple games to do their dailies. Like it's a chore that just has to be done. But like completing chores in real life, it may not feel satisfying in the moment, but there's a certain kind of satisfaction you get from completing a task, marking it off the to-do list. If that sense of satisfaction can be granted and wrapped in a pretty package with maybe even a reward that will finally net you that thing you've been eyeing in the cosmetic shop and saving up your gold to buy.

I don't get that sort of thing. But I'm also shit at IRL chores.

  • The same functionality that you use to take screenshots can be hijacked by bad actors to get access to your stuff. It's especially bad if they can see your MFA apps or other sensitive info.

Not saying the functionality is always used for the best of intentions, but there are many situations where I see it as necessary.
