  • If a clot was formed due to a poison or something, is that detectable? Or is this one of those things that will always be shrouded in suspicion because we'll never know if the clot was 'natural' or part of a more intentional plot?

  • Intent may not be relevant for your example, but a lot of US law does have different crimes and levels of criminality that depend on intent.

For example, if I kill someone on accident, that's usually categorized as manslaughter. If I kill someone on purpose, that might be murder. Depending on how much premeditation went into, it might be murder in the first degree, which comes with the most severe punishments.

  • Any system of government will require some way to handle unlawful/harmful conduct, yeah. It's just a matter of making it not complete shit.

No idea if it would work in practice, but I once heard an idea where policing is a (mandatory?) duty for all citizens, but in regular rotation. Meaning, at any given time, some % of the population is now cops, and once your turn is up you're back to a regular person with no enforcement obligations or privileges. No idea if that would work in practice, but it would give people real consequences for being a shit cop. Nobody could just be a terrible cop in perpetuity.

  • So like... "Forums are a good communication technology for modern use" and "have you ever found a solution in a forum" are different things.

As a counterexample, I've had more luck finding weird ass computer hardware issue solutions by appending 'reddit' to a search string than just about anything else. On the other hand I've wasted hours and hours on forum threads that go nowhere, with a million dead ends, and terminates in "see this other thread for the actual answer" and then that thread is archived or otherwise inaccessible.

  • I have definitely solved the odd issue from forums... but only because forums were the only thing available. Reading through them is still a chore and a half. Especially when 90% of the posts are "has anyone found a solution for this yet" ad nauseum that you still have to scroll through to eventually (maybe) find the page with the post you actually need.

I may just be bad at forums, but that's been my experience with them for the last 20+ years.

  • Well if that's your only exposure to it, then yeah I could see why you think it's not good.

But if you just want to hang out with a regular group of friends async and in voice chat, it's pretty damn good.

  • I left mumble, teamspeak, and Skype for Discord.

Discord is easily the better options among those choices.

I also can't think of much use for being in more than one call at once. I dunno seems like you're just looking for a different thing. And that's okay.

  • I will never understand "forums are best". I've tried, but they are worse in just about every aspect compared to any other communication system I've seen.

People just like what they like, I guess.

  • I blocked hexbear not because of their political beliefs, but because they would fucking ruin entire content sections by being super annoying.

I'm also glad to see your comment not triggering the same brigading behavior I used to see a lot more often.

  • Just watched the new episodes that dropped recently. Cried several times. God, I've never had a show with such a deep emotional understanding and enduring compassion for both children and adults.

    Bluey is a goddamn treasure.

  • Hard agree on the live action Cowboy Bebop. It was pretty good, all in all.

Honestly they nailed Jet so hard, it was fantastic. Just his whole vibe captured perfectly.

The original stuff was pretty good. It faltered hardest when it tried to recreate shots one for one from the anime.

Well, it faltered the hardest with Ed in the final scene. Not a good lasting impression.

  • To be fair, Tesla is the primary culprit of this. Waymo and other AV companies have just been slowly but steadily ramping up their testing and operating in relatively safe ways, and they are by and large doing pretty well from the coverage I've read. It's not happening as quickly as anybody hoped, but we're seeing steady improvements over time.

Tesla is just reckless, though, branding things in ways that make the whole AV endeavor look much worse than it deserves.

  • Guess it depends on where you live.

In my hometown (rural Midwest), there's a Walmart, a Schnucks (Midwest chain), maybe an IGA if it's still around, and about five Dollar Generals (more convenience store than grocery). I don't think I've seen a farmers market there my whole life, despite being literally in the middle of a million farms. Super odd now that I think about it.
