Oh that's a great question, we only did integers as bases - my guess would be 100.58 (or 100.18)? But I absolutely admit defeat here.
Fifth grade prepared me for base whatever, bring it on
Exactly, we also had this early on. Also with imperial measurements or some random antique ones. I remember the worst conversion exercises were in grade 5, where you had to convert a large number, say 5316, to a number if the base was 8, not 10. This felt completely useless and took a lot of time but it also wasn't necessarily hard. And it made sense because math usually does.
When I was 16, I went to high school in California for half a year as an exchange student. I am from Germany and as a junior, I would have had something like my 4th or 5th year of chemistry in school, but out of necessity (or laziness) I took beginner's chemistry.
For exercises I had been paired with two girls who used to try to make fun of me (I think; I never really figured out what their deal was), and asked me stupid questions about myself or Germany. I remember they once asked laughingly whether I like oranges because I was wearing a t-shirt with an orange print.
Well, then one day, there we go. Converting exercises. You have students from 9th to 12th grade in groups of 3-4, trying to convert imperial measurements to metrics. And then metrics to metrics. Basically, for a couple of weeks, we just converted stuff like 14 cm to mm or dm. I forgot so much about my time abroad but the most vivid memory I have is of the girls looking at each other (after a couple of days and repeated explanations) and one says "the decimal system just makes no sense" and the other one quietly and slowly nods in agreement. I ask them how it makes no sense. "Well it just makes no sense." It's just base 10 everything and the rest is practice, it's not different from inches to feet. "No but you see this makes sense. There are 12 inches in a foot", continued by a list of how many shmekels make up a whoopsiedoodle and how many dingelings fit into a hybotron.
I understand how you first have to get accustomed to new units and how conversion might need practice when you aren't familiar with the prefixes, especially when you aren't too experienced in the stem field. But I am still flabbergasted by the statement that having a system where everything is just base 10 and then you shift the decimal point around makes no sense. We are talking about fellow juniors here. How do you make it to age 16/17 never having heard of a decimal point or having trouble with base 10 conversion? HOW CAN YOU SAY IT MAKES NO SENSE?! It's the simplest, most logic based system there is!
Vote, people I don't care who you vote for but you have to vote because apathy is how we get fascism.
Nervous German laughter
We will probably get fascism with our next federal state's election, since AFD is projected to win by far more votes than any other party. Whelp.
I've met a young mom who, while not voting for AFD itself, does hope they will win the election because "then the voters will finally get heard and we also get to see what the party actually wants to implement, otherwise it's just big talk but it's interesting to see what they would do once they are in power." ...Can we not find out please? I hope it would just be big talk but I really don't care to find out. I am superwhite but I don't have a German passport and I don't want to know.
But back to the actual topic, I absolutely agree with you and not voting is always, always a bad idea. Hell, not two weeks ago I went to Berlin, paid for a hotel and stood in a long line to vote for the rigged elections in Russia. I know my voice will not be heard and it still felt imperative. Please, please go vote if you're in the USA ( - or anywhere where your voice will actually at least be counted). I hate to say it but our future also depends on what your country decides.
Understandable, makes sense. Meanwhile, most gut microbiome analyses in science come from stool samples... Ironic. It also reminds me of the DIY fecal transplant guy on youtube who used his son's stool sample
Follow up question. To keep one's gut bacteria (assuming you didn't have a c difficile infection etc but were doing very well with your microbiome) wouldn't it be practical to just kinda... Poop a sample or two in the week before the surgery, freeze it, put it back at the end of the surgery? Assuming that washing/disinfecting will affect different kinds of bacteria differently and different growth rates and so on, it seems like a big gamble to assume that the right bacteria will grow back in the right ratio.
I'm sorry but how do you put a bandage on your asshole in a way that it sticks? All I can imagine is a bandaid and I cannot get that picture out of my head but it seems very useless. A sanitary pad like for periods/postpartum would be my way to go. But a bandage?
Also, I hope your recovery went well! Stay healthy and happy.
How do I disable that?
Kinda same
Ooooh so I wasn't hallucinating after all... Thank you for giving me back some sanity!
Ok but he wasn't really a young person 9 years ago
Edit: I thought someone mentioned this was 9 years ago but I don't see where I could have read that, so nevermind. Also, fuck that guy.

SO WAS HE IN YOUR BATHROOM
Wait until a couple of years pass and you realize how many things that happened were really not ok and actually quite scary.
invalidating the ballot. Not not voting. There is a big difference. I am not sure how the terms are in English and whether there is a parallel, but you can "vote against everyone" - your count will count to the total percentage vs your vote is lost.
And yes, some people were absolutely forced to vote. But make no mistake, even if the elections were "free", the actual result does not matter at all. Numbers were drawn no matter what happened during the election.
What actually matters and I am very disappointed to hardly see any coverage in the media - a ton of people showed up to Noon Against Putin. Even in Russia. Navalny's last wish was for people to go vote on the last day at noon and the lines were impressive. (It is not a meeting, you are literally just standing in line to vote, they can't arrest you.) If you're unhappy with the current state of affairs, just show up. Even if you have already voted, just show up on the voting point at noon. And people did. And they saw that there are many.
Needless to say, with few places you were able to vote abroad, and less persecution to be feared, the lines were humongous. Surely, the Berlin embassy made sure how to cause a disgraceful bottleneck to keep people from voting before it closed.
Btw, you can see exit polls from Russians outside of Russia made by independent volunteers on voteabroad.info . But keep the bottlenecks in mind and that many people stood in line for 9+ hours and didn't get to vote, so they are not represented in the results.
Well I mean "technically" he "got" 87.28%
I use cotton leggings. I have some that are 100% cotton and others that are 99% cotton. But it depends on what you want. I mostly wear them under pants when it's cold outside or as home wear, but I have one or two pairs that I wear in the summer (sun protection and other reasons). I like them and they work well for me. But my guess is it depends on what you want to achieve with them. If you have one of these butts that make you want to "poing" it with your finger, I'm not sure each model will look like a tight second skin. That you would need to try out. Also the ankle, if you have very thin ankles and want the leggings to be very tight at that point, you should definitely try them on first.
You... You can't imagine anything creepier than someone jerking off to a picture of you? I'm not sure if I should admire your innocence or warn you about the world out there
