  • He's like a 100 years old so he probably still has the view that race mixing is an even greater sin than being black.

Oh and also, a common line of attack from conservatives in Australia is to make out that white people are claiming to be black to get benefits (affirmative action, welfare, etc). Maybe Trump is trying (and failing) to create a similar link between that and the whole DEI hire thing.

  • The only way he can win is if a majority of people don’t vote. If you don’t vote, it’s accepting a second Trump presidency.

If everyone voted, and especially if everyone under 40 voted, the Republican party would lose in a landslide. There's a reason that the Republicans are so big on voter suppression.

  • I hope that the EU regulation forcing 5 years of updates for phones and tablets starting June 2025 will allow me a compact flagship phone with aux, big battery and updates for a long time.

I just wish there was a PC compatible like standard for smartphones (and ARM in general). If smartphones were like PCs where a third party can relatively easily maintain 10+ years support, worrying about whether a manufacturer cares to update becomes irrelevant.

  • and the measurement is something like 10-15DB per drive

It seems to be a relative measurement, and so the values look to be 10-15dB above ambient, not the absolute dB of the drives. You can see he subtracts the background dB from the spl meter calibration early in the video.

  • I'd say all people can benefit from different types of workout. Like flexibility training and yoga is more likely to be done by women but if you don't want to start making old man sounds every time you sit down by age 30, it's a good idea.

Similarly, women can benefit from strength training as much as men, particularly since they have a greater loss in muscle mass into old age (causing other health problems). And despite stereotypes, you're not going to become huge just from lifting heavy weights (and a middle aged man is not going to become a lithe gymnast just from flexibility training).

  • This makes for a good headline but it should not stop you from voting.

Nothing should stop you voting. Even if Harris is predicted to have a 30 point margin, you should push for a 40 point margin. Because even if she wins, the fewer Republicans in office, the more policies the Democrats can implement.

  • Sounds like a bug, but I'd start by making sure to change the default audio output, and not the app specific audio output. I don't know what desktop environment you're using, but you can start by installing pavucontrol and set the fallback/default device in the output devices tab. Then when you need to change the output, change the fallback again.

You can also make changes with key bindings using the commandline app.

Since you're using Nobara, I'll assume it's using pipewire and not pulseaudio. If the problem turns out to be a bug, you can post a bug report here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues

  • It's basically a compositor, on top or your main compositor. So games aren't aware of the outer compositor (which will be Gnome or KDE or whatever) and just see a display with whatever dimensions you give to it.

  • The latest polls are now showing Harris slightly ahead (even to 4% lead). But it's way to early to make any strong conclusions.

I'm certainly looking forward to their election predictor coming back up once the nominee is confirmed.

  • He articulated a feeling that had until then remained unformed: that I was obsessed with achievement in se — not as an end to something meaningful, but to win a social competition.

    • J.D Vance on Peter Thiel

Vance seems to be a vapid social climber with no real principles of his own. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than an outright true believer.
