  • Having it in one place would be useful, since games often dump their saves in a variety of weird places so it could be easily lost when setting up a new system.

I roll my own by using syncthing and then symlinking the directories etc to their actual locations.

  • The major feature for this release is native Wayland support. This might well be the last program I use that still required XWayland. Should mean that HiDPI with Wine is improved significantly as well, especially given there have been improvements added there as well.

Note that you need to unset the environment variable DISPLAY since it will still prefer the X11 backend if both are available. Something like this should work:

    DISPLAY= wine <application>

  • He was Time’s person of the year too. Funny that you got a downvote for speaking this but it’s so important to remember.

I'd say most people understood the historical context but rightly concluded that feeding Trump's ego isn't the smartest play. And sticking to traditions and conventions in the face of the fascist threat is clearly not working.

  • What are your favorite searxng customizations / bangs?

Nothing hugely advanced. I added the NixOS wiki to !software_wikis and I also redirect the old wiki to the new wiki (since the former blocks VPNs). I also use the redirect functionality to redirect twitter/reddit etc links to FOSS frontends.

I've also added a bunch of stackexchange sites with their own keywords.

I'll add you can also use duckduckgo bangs by using !! e.g. !!protondb.

  • The reason why enabling 3G would improve coverage is because low radio frequencies do travel further and are less affected by interference.

Both 4G and 5G support low frequencies. The protocols have nothing to do with the frequencies they support, although it can seem that way particularly with 5G, which only used high frequencies when it was initially rolled out.

  • A bunch of reasons:

    • High dynamic range - I.e. the difference in volume between quiet and loud sounds, means that e.g. explosions have to be loud for speech to be audible. This is a good thing on the mastering of things, but players should support dynamic range compression, and they often don't.
    • Poor quality speakers/headphones, usually without room correction. If the signal isn't reaching the ears with a relatively flat frequency response (especially if midbass is higher than it should be) that can make speech difficult to hear.
    • Stereo tends to result in a relatively unstable center "image" which can make speech muddy. Center speakers help here, and there are some audio processing technologies that may help.
    • Poor mastering. Some movies are mixed in such a way that it makes dialogue difficult to hear.
  • I think this whole thing needs to become a political issue — I think people in the bush need to start complaining and we need to get 3G back," he said.

I understand where they are coming from, but 3G doesn't inherently have better signal. The carriers may have fucked something up or they haven't fully switched all of their old towers to 4G and 5G. And to be clear, both 4G and 5G can use the same low frequencies that 3G used, but are more efficient.

That's not to say the rollout hasn't been a bit of a mess with bad communication and last minute changes (the whole VoLTE emergency calling shitshow, for example).

  • Pronatalism is supported by Elon Musk and Peter Thiel which should raise alarm bells. Not to mention the links to other conservative techbro movements.

If they didn't want to be associated with something that has shades of eugenics, they might have chosen a different name for their philosophy.
