Yea, I agree. I’d be willing to give it a chance.

Just seems creatively lazy when there’s so many new stories/ideas yet to be written.

I guess I just don’t see 10 years as old enough for a reboot. Or even that old for a tv show. I think reboots, I think like She-ra or Saved by the bell or something. Rebooting the office while people still rewatch it heavily just seems weird.

Fox News really has rotted so many brains. People unironically using phrases “crt” and “woke” as boogeymen to rally against is just sad.

I remember coming home from 5th grade and seeing this on the news. It was surreal since America, even as a minority, seemed just… I had a different image before.

Now I’m a jaded adult and you’re right, the cracks started to show soon after. I appreciated how people came together and then…..the “war on terror”. Def a turning point

I’m sorry this happened to you. I think you should disable images on beehaw. Not worth compromising your mental health and it’s too big a job to moderate that level of stuff - which you will have to do if images can be hosted.

I’m really sorry again that someone traumatized you and others with csam. Some people are beyond effed up - I’m really angry hearing about this.

I would like to echo this. Without getting into specifics, beehaw was one of the few spaces taking a nuanced take to a political topic that pretty much kept me from descending into the despair of thinking there was a lot of heartless people out there.

It helped my level of cynicism and I can’t overstate how impactful that’s been.

Stopped reading a third of the way through when I realized this felt like a non-critical piece. Seriously going to repeat Musk’s lie of caring about free speech and then, without any note of criticism, discuss how he wants to get rid of the “woke mind virus.” Like, he shows who he is, and it’s not someone who cares about free speech. And the writer is a crappy biographer if they’re going to let that go unchallenged.

I also found the writing style boring, but that’s more subjective I suppose.

There’s a reason a freshman writing course is required at a lot of colleges. High school education is inconsistent, especially when you consider how poorly resources are equitably split amongst schools. Critical thinking doesn’t involve just the type of thinking in STEM.

As someone who studied in both STEM and humanities, I’d say this conversation is an example. The fact you genuinely believe precise thinking = critical thinking is why these courses are needed. Too many stem students think they have it figured out, when they don’t, and then go on to embarrass themselves in their careers cause they’re poor communicators or ignorant of others perspectives. Or unwilling to listen because they think they already understand something someone else is expressing to them when they don’t. And they don’t even know how much they’re not understanding cause they’re convinced they are critical thinkers in all the ways that matter, when it’s beyond just the type of problem solving involved in STEM.

I host my own and am happier with it vs Google. Results aren’t amazing, but they’re at least more well-rounded and I’m not letting google continue to build a profile on me.

Humanities isn’t to teach people to be good. It’s to teach people to critically think, communicate well, and understand each other through various lenses. People may be inclined to act more ethically when they do these things however. And can more clearly understand other perspectives.

No one uses OnlyOffice? So far it’s been suitable and feels familiar to MSO.

Yea, I wonder the same. It’s hard to keep some plants alive- especially if you genuinely have little knowledge about plants.

I have a garden but it took a lot of research to learn how to keep my plants alive and that was after killing the first set, because it turns out “just water” isn’t actually all there is to it.

I’d like to point out that there’s few times scarier/more life threatening than interacting with a cop - esp as a black person. Something about knowing someone can murder you and people will make excuses for them.

I don’t blame her for driving away at all. Exactly because of the bullshit cops pull- aka their guns. There’s no amount of following directions that will save you if the cop is racist/trigger-happy enough.

I was questioning myself when I started paying close to $25 for Netflix. Cancelled once I heard about pw-sharing no longer being a thing. Couldn't justify the cost of 4 screens if my family couldn't use it.

Now for most things, It's either self-hosted/FOSS/ or proprietary one-time fee. else I do without.
