  • You can already wake the device up over LAN, USB, or Bluetooth. You could even have a separate device such as a PC or phone that sends the wake up signal to the steam deck if you wanted. I have other devices that work this way in my home already.

It’d be preferable to manage this all on device of course, but I assure you this is solvable where existing Steam Decks already reside, without needing to fix any low level firmwares.

  • It’d be nice if it could wake itself up, and then begin to update games while idle. When done it could just go back to sleep again if it’s still idle after some time passes.

Even better would be settings to choose auto updates from discover, the client, and any proton changes.

Surprised they don’t have anything like this after years, it’s not a particularly complex problem to solve. All of the update logic for the games already exists, it’s literally just managing the wake/sleep events that they’d need to program.

  • Yea it can be read, but it’s generally considered open source when it is both readable and modifiable, and this is not. In a commercial setting this would need a license approved by OSI as well.

Code that can be read but not used for much isn’t in the spirit of open source. It reminds me of a rich kid who gets yet another new toy and wants everyone to see what they have for attention but won’t let them touch it. We should call this something else entirely, perhaps readable source.

  • I wasn’t asking genuinely about the people already here, we are here because we were willing to go through the red tape. The thought experiment was meant to highlight that we are the exception, most people would push.

  • Could also be pirate space monkeys came and saved all the fish and then returned them after. It’s really fun to make up situations where the fish didn’t die in the story. We can even give Noah a staff and special powers as long they justify our view of the world.

  • It is far more sinister. They are trying to delegitimize them and then replace them with private corporations that they control. It is a long term plan.

Two of the key ultra conservative goals of P25 are to consolidate power of the executive branch and benefit corporate interests by rolling back regulatory oversight. They are doing a great job of their goal.

  • I agree, a gateway drug is what we are looking for. Imagine trying to learn how to run before you learned how to walk. We are asking a lot of the masses if we want to see user growth here without a simple and easy to understand starting place.

I think the hardest concept for beginners to grok is that they can’t login with one account to all instances. If we were to improve the UX around that experience solely, we would see greater adoption.

  • No one is saying they can’t be put behind bars. Try to name a billionaire that was arrested in the US that got arrested without a mountain of paperwork, slow judicial due diligence, and they eventually went to prison.

They are not above the law, but they can control it when they need to. Cops do not fear you or me, but they certainly fear the powerful, and money is often synonymous with power in the US.

  • Thanks, I have tried this and every single mod I could find online.

Nothing worked. I even tried to install steam and run the game through that, Winlator wasn’t very stable though, and would crash. I think I’ll just wait until it improves and hope the issue resolves itself.

  • Not sure if you are being serious or not. Police do not exist in society to protect the people, they exist to protect the rich.

Any police officer who attempted to arrest one of the richest people would immediately be hit with a lawsuit, likely lose their job within a couple days, and be shunned by the rest of their gang. Not to mention the situation could easily escalate given that most rich people have private guards who are equally armed to defend themselves in case of any Luigi’s.

Additionally police don’t tend to just go arrest high profile people without a lot of justification for doing so ahead of time, such as an arrest warrant, and lots of paper work.

If someone went to a police precinct and told them to arrest him, they’d probably first get a good laugh out of the people behind the desk, and then told to leave immediately.

  • You do need great hardware, but it depends on your use case. If you want the full 671 billion parameter R1, you need to run it on specialized hardware that has enough RAM.

If you want to run R1 on a phone, you could get the 1.5B parameter R1 running as well. But the quality of results and the speed of response diminish significantly depending on the model and the hardware you use.

In Iceland they run their Bitcoin Mining facilities fully on geothermal energy. I wouldn’t be surprised to find the EU exploring there options regarding new data centers built on renewable energy for quite some time. For now it is a lot faster to train the models within existing data centers that already have the hardware while everyone is actively competing.

Meanwhile governments and corporations are trying to pull money out their ass (cutting important programs) to move mountains and create AGI, of which we have no evidence this is the way to accomplish that.
