  • thanks a lot man, this is really helpful: veyr understandable. (first time that I read in clear letter that this kind of technologiy is designed primarly to share information. And it is a shame that here in Europe laws don't force corporation to build technology that has as a goal the privacy first. I am passionate in literature and Cultural studies, thus if we were living in another world I believe I would not read this stuff, because my heart beat for humanities (in a finite and short life: reading all Cormac McCarthy's opus for a second time it would be for me highly preferrable than learn about networks, but this is the world I live in and I am tired of these damn corporation that treat people like objects)

  • where do I start from scratch, taking into account that English isn't my mother tongue and Italian is? Could you point me a guide, video, something for dummies that can explain, and is authentically conceived to educate and teach to person like me who wanto to learn but 4 times out of 5 ends up with frustration for the jargon and language for initiated the is in forums often spoken?

  • Until people won't vote a socialist party things will go the way you've described. People can't childishly complain about politicians when they have voted them. In America, during the elections, a meager minority go to vote. Until people won't become politically active, why should things change?

  • I totally agree with that conceptual knot: people who live precarious lives aren't going to make any risky moves because they live drenched in anxiety of ending down on the street. And it's patent that every advance in technology will benefit an handful of mega rich, and the trickle down economy was a bull****. (Very interesting about this is Varoufakis and his concept of techno feudalism). Now, having said that: the only answer is political, the governments must build consistent safety nets to allow the growth of middle class, alleviate them the angst of turning into an army of homeless, so that when the basic needs are met: a house, cures and food, one can concentrate about how to plan and thrive in the future. The only method is taxing the rich, the tragicomically rich. https://digg.com/2020/this-scrolling-visualization-of-jeff-bezos-wealth-is-breaking-our-brains

  • Nope, we did not invest at all setting straight what Mussolini did to our country. We've been very loose and a ambiguous, with the result that they're There are two factions o Pro and antifascists. What your comment made me think is the exploit of AFD in Germany, hence the investments not always are enough

  • 🤦‍♂️ Ok, I expected to create this mini chaos. I am not particulary acute, but I normally tend to figure out, while using a client, how to select and copy the a portion of text. In this case, before posting, I've tried some of the most obvious and intuitive solutions without any results, the only ones I've obtained where cumbersome and unsatisfaying.
I did not know existed so many app/clients for Lemmy. I've just tried 2 and this one, Voyager, is, I repeat, graphically very rich and beautiful, if compared with the previous and, also with Reddit is fun (the reddit client I used until it was shut down following that rascal Reddit did to the creator of RIF). I want to support Voyager because is by far the most beautiful app I've used among those said clients.
I'm sure there must be a most practical and elegant to selct and copy the text, I'll find out and I'll let you know, thanks for all your answer and the desire to help!

  • I use Voyager, but there's not any option to select text but cumbersome(see below). I just can't heavy-tap, select and copy. And even when I do that operation of tapping high on the left hand side of the screen and little menu appears, I tap on select text, and sometimes I can select only the title of the article, not the text.

  • I totally agree with you and this is the opportunity to call on the tech savy who are here. There's a lot of people like OP, like me, drenched in frustration, because we realize we are the product, but we don't have the strength and the knowledge to emancipate ourself from this position of semilliterate. Yes, you could say: just study, but when one works the time, having some organized free time is the Neverland. I think it'd be something memorable, that will endure times if people of good fill could put together some sort of wikipedia that explains simply how to come back to be a user, or even better an explorer and not just a product.
I know there's something like but I do not have the skills to install it. I do have a proton account, I use DDG, mozilla firefox and I tend to use f-droid for every app, before going to Google play to download what I need.
I began to pay for the Internet services or make donations (small ones) to organizations who are respectful toward the person and bring/offer interesting contents to the net (Intercept.
But what misses is the will to communicate and literate people like us that suffer the Internet without having to tools to take back our right to be just a curious person who want to wander through the world rather than into a mega mall center.

  • I did the same, but athough I love this place, there's still a huge scarcity of contents. Sometimes, as a lurker, to find more stuff. Here we're just an handful, thus I cannot still find here what I used to find on Reddit.
