  • I’ve been a Plex user for over a decade now. I’m not impressed with the direction they’re taking, but the alternatives aren’t quite there yet in terms of polish. I hope that by the time they fuck it all up there’ll be a better solution to switch to.

  • maybe it’s to allow take-away at a lower price, like a dine in vs eat out charge.

Very rare, I’m from Ireland & have only seen it once in a Chinese restaurant. They were very clear about it in the menu though so it wasn’t a sticker shock price

  • If you use NGINX proxy manager you’ll also be able to use a FQDN with SSL for your local services without them being exposed to the internet. It means your local users won’t see the scary insecure page when they access services.

You can even set your public dns records to have Plex.yourdomain.tld point to the local IP of NGINX - removing the need for local dns entirely. That way if you do need to access a service outside with tailscale; their subnet router feature will just work out of the box.

Porkbun are still offering a free .dev or .app domain if you don’t already have one: https://porkbun.com/event/freeappdevdomain

  • Desktop Linux is well known for how compatible it is with proprietary graphics card drivers. I can only imagine the world of pain you’re going through with them being un/pluggable.

  • When I worked in a call centre we would hear a beep right before the call went live. Some magnificent bastard set a guy’s windows minimise noise to that sound. Every time he minimises a window he thought a call came though, we got a good days fun out of that one.
