For those who don't want to pay to remove ads, there's always some pretty great open-source alternatives. Sync is the only app so far to truly care about foldable phones and I wanted to support the dev, so I paid to remove ads but I understand why others might be apprehensive.
This seems completely over-the-top when the person is literally trying to have a discussion about something that they have admitted to not knowing much about. "Attempts" is the terminology being used by the DDG app, which explains why OP is using the same wording.
This whole thread has a weird, defensive and "reinforce my purchase" type of vibe. LJDawson has been pretty transparent about this and has worked hard on the app, so I sorta get it, but come on.
"In fact, misleading is putting it lightly."
How about we all calm down before starting to throw personal accusations out there?
Seems more like you're projecting a reality that isn't the case. Moreso projecting a weird defensive attitude over a social media application when people are, understandably, concerned about their data privacy. I think we should keep this type of attitude over on the Reddit side.
There's an important distinction between devs and the executive side of publishing. I can promise you that the Jedi devs absolutely love the game they're making.
The Jedi series almost single-handedly brought back EA singleplayer games. Since Fallen Order, we've gotten Mass Effect Legendary Edition (and ME4 announcement) and an excellent Dead Space remake.
an opinion cannot be wrong. but it also cannot be right. you make a fair point with what you're saying. the dev is already planning on a single time purchase, but a sub option is definitely not "morally wrong."
Your reply is coming across as needlessly aggressive, but I'm not sure if I'm just projecting my years of Reddit interaction onto you. I had no ill intentions when I replied to your initial post, only wanted to offer my two cents on a public forum, which in this case was making a distinction as to what is considered stupid in this context. To further clarify, what I posted was not a protest and was an opinion meant to further the discussion.
"Living off the grid" can also be referred to as self-sustainable living and it seems to be growing in popularity as modern society becomes more exclusive, artificial, and unhealthy. Taking the knowledge you've gained and skills you've learned in order to live sustainably by yourself in nature, away from the bullshit of modern life is, personally, not stupid, which was the original point I was trying to make. But, as you mentioned, it is when people decide to just quit everything because they had a bad day, but have no tools or skills to survive that is very ill-informed to say the least.
I wonder if Xiaomi phones work well on Mint Mobile in the US. Probably not is my guess, but if it did I would definitely consider upgrading from my Fold4.
I completely understand your point and will agree that many people take our day to day luxuries for granted, but society is just as capable of constantly beating you down and taking from you as much as it provides.
I can't blame anyone for trying to "disappear", but at least do some extensive planning.
$20 to remove ads on an app I'll probably use daily seems to be fair price, from my perspective. But the subscription rubs me the wrong way.
