  • My wife and I fostered a semi-feral pregnant cat once. After her kittens were old enough for adoption, we kept the mother cat. She didn't really get along with our other cats though. So while we were on vacation and one of our neighbors was pet-sitting, she snuck out the door and disappeared. My wife decided we should cut our vacation short to go home and try to find her. After we got back, and a couple hours of searching, we figured she was just gone. Wife was distraught, but finally managed to fall asleep. At about 2 am, I hear this terrified meowing coming from outside. Figured out that it was our missing cat and she was hiding under our car. Convinced her to come back into the house using cat treats as bait. Took the cat into our bedroom and woke up the wife to show her the cat was back. To this day, the cat won't leave our room unless under extreme duress (i.e. someone vacuuming). I think she realized that night just how good she has it as an indoor cat.

  • Yep. They basically have a social hierarchy where the dominant fish in a group is female. If the alpha female dies, then another female may become alpha, or a male will switch and become the alpha female. There are actually quite a few species where gender isn't determined solely by genetics. So essentially when Coral died, in reality Marlin would've changed to a female. Just imagine the reaction of the conservatives had they been more scientifically accurate in that movie...

  • To me, the scene that most defined what the Jedi order had become and why it needed to end was at the big fight scene at the end of Attack of the Clones where Yoda and Dooku were dueling. When Dooku pulled a pillar down with the Force and then Yoda used the Force to catch it to prevent it from falling on to Obi-wan. He then made a spectacle of it by spinning it around before throwing it back at Dooku. What he should have done was just use the Force to move Obi-wan and Anakin to a safe position and continued to pursue Dooku. That scene just demonstrated how full of himself Yoda had become. And it took until his duel with Palpatine before he realized that he was a large part of what had gone wrong with the Jedi order. I also always felt that he intentionally withheld a lot of information about the Jedi order from Luke in order to prevent him from rebuilding a similar system.

  • Even in countries that have been historically dominated by manual transmissions, they're starting to disappear. Where efficiency was once their main selling point, most modern automatic transmissions can do it better. Sure takes the fun out of it though.
