  • If I had to make a wild guess I'd say he isn't trying to mislead others but has convinced himself.

He was holding the gun that accidentally killed somebody. That's a heavy burden to carry and a trauma in is own right. He probably needs to believe he didn't pull the trigger.

  • This is basically how I feel.

Reddit had some great aspects. Niche communities about hobbies I might be interested in had wikis with intros on how to get started being something I miss.

My biggest issue with the Lemmy community is we seem to have brought the thirst-communities and the meme communities in great numbers but the hobby communities are really lacking.

Generally speaking I'm not interested in pics of attractive celeb number 7864 and while memes are fun their over abundance was why I was looking for a new content aggregator before the API changes.

  • Lemmy is a collection of instances with the express purpose of each instance getting to set us own moderation rules.

As a concept, it can neither be pro or anti censorship as the software doesn't enforce either model.

  • Generally speaking, almost every character in the Wheel of Time series views everybody else as a bunch of children. Considering how prevalent corporal punishment on children would have been in Robert Jordan's life I'm not surprised.

My biggest frustration with it is that if the characters learned proper communication skills in book 1 most of the issues throughout the series could have just been avoided.

Everybody just wants everybody else to do what they say with no explanations and gets mad when they don't.

  • JS is fine. But as with any tool it's not the best for every scenario.

The flak JS tends to get us mostly because of the rise of popularity is Node.js leading to backend JavaScript beginning commonplace. which it's overall a poor choice for backend when compared to many other languages as the strengths that JS has are more tailored to frontend.

  • I can see value in a summarization bot or an auto moderator so long as allowing some didn't turn into a burden on the admin team on which ones to allow.

I think their value can easily be outweighed if there are too many bots providing no value.

  • I would ask myself "What are the games I play and how important is it to be able to play the latest AAA games when they come out?"

Proton is doing a wonderful job with compatibility, but it will likely always be behind by a bit.

If gaming is your primary focus and you play a lot of new games when they first come out, dual booting might be the best option.

On the other hand, if you are more patient and don't have to play things on release day or just like going through the catalogue of older good games, you can probably get away with a full switch.

Personally, I'm in a more privileged scenario. I have a laptop with Linux and a desktop with Windows for gaming. I do most of my gaming on the steam deck, PS5, or switch but any first person or games that benefit from good reaction time with a mouse get played on my desktop. Some of my games just won't work on proton because they are too intensive to run through emulation or just in too early a state to consider trying.

With all of that, if I could only have one machine it would likely be running Windows in some capacity.

I recommend you evaluate that question for yourself and go look at ProtonDB to figure out what state you'll be in.
